You don't know a good time until you've been in a room of sixtysomething white people feverishly whispering to each other "Is that Cher?!"

January 28th, 5:05 pm, 90%-95% full

Regal Mayfaire Stadium 16

Trailers:

A Wrinkle of Time

Winchester

Alpha

A Quiet Place

Fifty Shades Freed

Red Sparrow

Isle of Dogs

This film, while well made from a technical standpoint, is controversial amongst the general audience if my experience is anything to go by. The film sparked a lot of conversation when it ended, some good and some bad. The person I was sitting next to said:

"That's no Academy Award movie... that's no Casablanca..."

My parent and I talked about it during dinner afterwards:

Parent: "I did not like that film at all..."

Me: "Well, it was definitely outlandish..."

Parent: "Outlandish? They had (*spoiler*) together." *scoffs* "I had to stop myself from laughing out loud."

I'm willing to bet many of the general audience members seeking out this film have those viewpoints. And I think that's okay; that is definitely not a film most viewers are used to watching. But I think word-of-mouth has been taking hits and will continue to take hits.

How did they respond?

I mean I know you said they trashed it but I want to know what these people who do NOT BELIEVE said.

Lots of "this looks stupid" and "It's like Sharknado without the Sharks", as well as some cringing during some of the lines of dialogue.

Phantom Thread

January 25, 2018

12:30PM 30% Full

Trailers: Don't Remember.

The four women directly behind me were NOT having it.  Laughed at the wrong times, talked a lot.  One said: "That was cuckoo-cuckoo" as the credits rolled.

Shape of Water

January 27, 2018

12:30PM 100% Full

Trailers: New Mutants (LOL)

Couple laughs and here and there.  Positive murmurs on the way out.

Paddington 2

January 28, 2018

7:30PM  3% Full.

Trailers: Peter Rabbit

There were five of us: two older women in the back, a little boy and his mother, and myself.  The older women laughed once or twice.  The little boy announced to everyone that the "Movie was starting, because the lights went down."  He was also very concerned/talkative during some of the more emotional moments.  It was adorable.

Winchester

February 2, 2018

7:25PM 30% Full

Trailers: Truth or Dare (murmurs of "that looks stupid" from behind me), Strangers: Prey at Night (murmurs)

The theater was about 40 people and 90% of us were women over 25.  Scattered laughs and startled noises throughout, with a couple of "Jesus Christs" at some jump scares.
