2001:  A Space Odyssey IN IMAX

Just me.

No trailers. With good reason, I didn't expect there to be an intermission.

I kept nodding off at times, more because I was super tired and the music was nice and less to do with the movie. Just when I gave up the fight, the movie starting with a loud wailing noise.

The Pointe Theater 14

Before The Film

When we went to the ticket booth, I overheard many people buy tickets for Searching. Granted, of the three theaters in town, this was the only one showing the film. Nevertheless, it was encouraging to see audience engagement.

On a related note, my dad told me while browsing the timestamps above the ticket booth that he "heard Crazy Rich Asians was funny". This positive response is significant; he watches reruns of Fox News with the Amazon Firestick, and I've come across articles by them that touch upon how the film has caused legal immigrants from Asian countries to go to the theater for the first time in years - so I'm thinking that's where my dad heard about it. Nevertheless, it shows the strengh of the film itself when it can appeal to people all across the political spectrum in this day and age. I am incredibly happy for the film's success and for everyone involved.

Trailers (We very likely missed a few.)

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

The House with a Clock In Its Walls

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (laughs)

Response to the Film

Some kids behind us were restless at the slow beginning, but the audience eventually gave off a sense of engaged silence.

A friend that came with us referred to it as a 'cute', 'little' movie, and when I surmised that the film was perhaps too traditional, he agreed.

After The Film

A few signifant instances regarding posters happened as we were walking out.

When I walked out of the restroom, my dad was looking at a poster of the movie Smallfoot; he found the premise, title, and tagline substantially amusing; so much so, that he waved my friend over to where the poster was, so that he could laugh at it, too.

And as we walked out, my friend pointed at the poster for the 2nd Wreck-It Ralph film; he said that he thought it'd be good and that he was looking forward to it.

The Dumbo poster didn't fare so well. When we saw it, they were dumbfounded about how they were making another one. When my dad surmised that it'd be "the dark version", I told him that Tim Burton was the director, much to his chagrin - he very much dislikes Tim Burton. And to add insult to injury, my friend also said something about the film being 'live-action' - very likely implying that he thought the film was largely unnecessary.

A Star Is Born (A Way Out)

Overlord

The Hate U Give

A Star Is Born (One Reason)

Searching

September 10, 11:55 AM, 10% full in a 78 seat auditorium

AMC Lake Square 12

Trailers

Hell Fest

Mortal Engines

Overlord

Widows

A Star Is Born: Murmurs (and also me trying to contain my laughter with "AY! I just wanna take another look at ya." Thank you, BOT)

The Girl in the Spider's Web

White Boy Rick: Laughs

The short before the film got a lot of laughs

The audience was very engaged in the movie with laughs at the humorous bits and lots of whispers at key reveals. The younger couple in front of me got a bit overboard with chatting at times, but they were at least trying to be quiet so I can't complain too much.

The Nun

Park Place Stadium Cinemas (Charleston, WV) | September 6th, 2018 @ 7:05 PM

Attendance: 83 out of 150 Seats (55%)

Trailer

Venom - Some laughter, particularly during Venom's talk with the victim in the store.

A Star is Born - A person booed when the trailer ended, inciting some laughter. Otherwise they were silent. (Teenagers...)

Hunter Killer - No reactions.

Assassination Nation - Surprisingly, had people talking...until the movie started.

Fair crowd for what was a good sized room. A lot of the audience was comprised of teenagers and young adults, so of course they found it scary (I did not). Also, some dumb ass brought their kid to this and left early. What an idiot.
