Thor: Love and Thunder | July 8, 2022 | Directed by Oscar Winner Taika Waititi | Ninth most profitable movie of 2022

If this movie has bad WOM even in the country that seems to love the MCU movies the most (South Korea), it is almost certain that it will have bad WOM in the rest of the world too, on the same level as Multiverse of Madness or even worse in some places, and the hype for Thor 4 is smaller than what MOM had, so it will also have smaller openings.

Shang-Chi also had bad WOM in Korea for the reasons I don't know, do anyone know why Shang-Chi had bad WOM in Korea but good elsewhere?

Koreans have probably seen enough great marital arts movies not to be impressed by a substandard one.

This. Why Marvel thought SC was going to blow up in Asia is beyond me. Their average C and K dramas have better fights.  Also, dragons and other mythical creatures are dime a dozen in C dramas that are watched throughout Asia. Novelty factor = zero.

Simple reason being it was crap. USA (especially critics) for some reason goes easy on Asian/Chinese cast films.

Case with Mulan, Shang Chi, Crazy Rich Asians. Even RRR recently is mediocre and being raved by American Film Twitter. The first two are simply trash.

Personally find EEEAO overrated as well just like the other three.

RRR was good actually considering Indian movie standards, it was much better than other recent south movies like KGF2, Beast & Valimai etc

Shang Chi also had geo-political issues. A Chinese hero won't work in Korea, Japan.

Not all ASIANS are Chinese. It worked well in Chinese Asian markets i.e. Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia.

This is something Hollywood is gonna learn the hard way. They want to box all Asian markets in one cause easier but don't understand that lets say Chinese hero won't appeal to Koreans and Japanese and vice versa. It also happened on smaller scale in US where they expected In the Heights to create a tsunami of Latino support but it bombed cause non-Puerto Ricans weren't interested in a musical about Puerto Ricans from a very specific American neighborhood.

Is Thor 4 getting a Chinese release?

Is Marvel actually banned for life in China?

I know people have their opinions about China but seeing MCU banned forever is a bit sad. Following the MCU success in China was fun.

There hasn’t been a formal ban on Marvel movies in China, but the CCP in general seems to be cracking down on Hollywood movies, and the recent batch of Marvel films have been among the casualties.
