Let’s not conveniently forget Mr & Mrs Smith. That film was gigantic, solely on star power with her and Pitt being an on screen couple.

If you think that would've been as big as it was with Pitt and any other actress, then you need your head examined.

Yes, Mr and Mrs Smith was Angelina Jolie's first big hit. But she still has zero legacy films, and zero movies that were hits off her own bat (Salt was claimed above, but made less than x3 budget. It did fine. But it wasn't a big hit. Wanted had plenty of other stars- she wasn't even top billed.)

But Mr and Mrs Smith was a hit partially from Jolie and her relationship with Pitt. Having already been treated as an A-List star for 6 years. And having reams and reams and reams of media coverage lavished on her, an oscar for a performance in basically a TV movie and multiple failed attempts to have launched as a megastar already failed.

Look. Come on, let's not pretend that there are any other stars of Jolie's level that haven't got - never mind one, but MULTIPLE legacy films to their name after being an A-Lister for 20 years.

With Jolie you're negotiating whether an above-average drama or decent action film can be classed as 'good' or not.

With Brad Pitt - who admittedly has been an A-Lister for 5 or so years longer than Jolie - you can name Thelma and Louise, Kalifornia, True Romance, 12 Monkeys, Seven, Inglorious Bastards, 12 Years a Slave, Interview with a Vampire, Three of Life. All of which have an objectively more obvious movie legacy. Mr and Mrs Smith isn't even in his 10 - probably 15 - most notable films.

Winona Ryder - Jolie's co-star in Girl, Interrupted - was only an A-Lister for about 5 years, but she was in 5 movies with an undisputed historic legacy - Beetlejuice, Heathers, Edward Scissorhands, Black Swan and The Age of Innocence where Jolie has zero.

Where people are arguing that Jolie has been in good films... that's as far as it gets. Good films. No great ones. No legacy ones. No important ones.

I'm not saying she isn't a star. But she's the most bizarre, non-star star in history. I'd certainly argue no undisputed A-Lister has had less of an impact on the history of film, never mind an A-Lister who has been an A-Lister for 20 years.

You do mean "the affair" right?  She has never made the huge box office except with Brad because of "the affair" & Maleficent which is Disney - so overrated she is.  I guess she is the reason By The Sea was a huge bomb since she wrote it, directed it & starred in it, right?

Winona was not first billed in any of these movie. yes, they are iconic movies, but she was not the star of these movies.

Agreed, Jolie has a weak resume, but she's still A list

I haven't heard of anyone in that cast except for Jolie and Hayek. Hayek is far from a star. She's like ketchup. A nice addition for flavour but on her own her name doesn't mean much.

Bryan Tyree? Wtf is that? Richard Madden? Who?

All star is instantly recognizable names. Not fringe actors.

Shocked that you haven’t heard about Dong-Seok Ma, go watch Train to Busan. Also surprised you didn’t know who Richard Madden is, Bodyguard is a perfect show for men over 40. Brian Tyree is an up and comer who was in Childs Play this year, he’s a regular in Atlanta was in Widows, If Beale Street Could Talk, Spiderverse, BoJack, Red Dead 2 to name some. He’s going to be in Joker, A Quiet Place 2, Godzilla vs Kong, The Woman in The Window and Eternals.

Angelina Jolie is not just known for her movies but also for the notoriety. Gazillion of magazines have been sold covering her personal life, worldwide. No matter how many she has had hits or lack thereof the past few years during and after her marriage to Pitt, no one can dispute her being a household name. Generations of GA know her, from millennials and going backwards. She has been amongst the most media covered actors in the history of Hollywood. So yes, she is indeed a star. Doesn't exclusively have to be all about movies and such.

Richard Madden isn’t a star either. A recognizable name for some, sure. But he struggled to find his footing ever since he left GOT. It’s been more than half a decade and his resume is far from impressive. Not someone you’d expect to be filling any seats that’s for sure.

Goodness, these Madden takes are so bad. He's been in a big Disney movie since leaving GoT, an Elton John biopic, a lead role in a successful tv show that lead to him winning a GG. A fringe actor, he is not...nor would I say he's struggled. Now with a new Marvel franchise, he may turn out to be the most successful of all the actors who starred on GoT.

I have no idea who this Madden guy is and why he's being pushed so hard. Is he that good of an actor? I don't watch GOT, but most of their actors kinda failed to establish themselves outside that series

Watch Bodyguard or Rocketman and make up your own opinion. He was the prince in Cinderella remake if you watched that.

Yeah this is what we call a "character actor".
