Remember they had to release it at a strange time due to a leak. Think it was 2am here when usually it’s 4pm.
Elessar
IMHO critics went soft on the 1st one. It was ho-hum at best. Still, looking forward to this one. Hopefully, it's a few steps up.
titanic2187
I can say I am equally excited by the trailer this round like the trailer for 1st movie did me. Hope it won't turn into a near spoof-level sequel

Especially if you're excited for a movie, wouldn't you want to be surprised so you can be more invested and interested in the story? Well, it's a balance really. There's also an obsession about knowing nothing when walking in and flipping out over hearing the most minor detail. On the whole I do agree more with spoilerphobes than not. On the other hand, I do think the obsession with avoiding spoilers has led in part to "mystery box" storytelling, which has a whole set of plusses and minuses. It's particularly endemic in SW fandom right now, which is fairly ironic as George Lucas not only never really cared about "mystery box" storytelling, he didn't even care about spoiling (at least some) details of his own movies ahead of time (the famous example being an interview when asked "Who or what is the Phantom Menace", he said "Oh, it's Darth Sidious"). Anyway, to get back to your question, some folks just like to see execution more than being surprised. It's not like folks are surprised at what happens in Hamlet, after all, but still like to watch it. For other folks, if they know the broad beats of the story, and approve of the story, then they can watch it and not be worried that they won't like the film. When I think about it, it's not having that "dread of not liking the story" and being able to go in and just have worry-free enjoyment is what appeals to some. Mind, this is just talking about some folks. For others it's the "thrill of the hunt" as they try to find out things ahead of time/know things before others. Which also leads to problems in modern entertainment as companies try to lock things down as tight as possible to stop them (again, looking askance at Lucasfilm here), but starting to drift off the point a bit so I'll leave those thoughts for another time. dudalb
Pretty sure Blumhouse did what Blumhlouse usually does which is to keep the budget on this so low that even if the just the hardcore horror audience turns out they will make their money back worst case scenario and probably make at least some profit. The Dark Shape
H18 premiered at the Toronto Film Festival so it's not that weird. Just means they have confidence in it.

AdamKendall
With Venom jumping to October 15, they should move this up to October 1st. Unless Blum going to go back on his word about delaying this film again ... he said come hell or high water it's releasing in October 2021.
grim22
Wonder what happens to this movie. Oct 15 is the most optimal date for it as it gets a decent OW, and then a second weekend bump due to Halloween before it dies post the holiday. But Venom 2 is now by far the bigger movie on this weekend and takes all PLFs as well

As long as it comes out ... it's been 3 years since the last one and this has been in the can for 2 years. It's pretty much the only big movie I was really pumped for this fall (that's not on HBO Max) Edited August 12, 2021 by AdamKendall
The Wild Eric
If Evan Hansen wasn't in the way (and even then, it already got pushed to December in Australia, so America could follow through), they could push it up to Venom's old date You still have the fall/Halloween season, and they can place it on VOD just when the holiday is about to start for maximum potential
ddddeeee
This can (will) gross less than the first's OW and still be a success This is probably fine staying put
