The Last Duel - Ridley Scott, Matt Damon & Adam Driver | October 15, 2021

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the Irish government announced all travel restrictions within Ireland will be lifted on June 29th, and have shortened the gradual reopening of the country from 5 phases to 4, as a result of the decline in the number of new cases per day and the decline in deaths from COVID-19 per day (it's only within the past few days that we reached 25,000 confirmed cases).

While I'm not an expert, it does sound to me that there is a chance that filming could restart by August, if not mid-July, so long as appropriate measures are taken.

Looking like it.

With a two-month extension, studios will have extra time to finish their movies and postpone release dates without sacrificing their chances at Oscar contention. Ridley Scott, for example, is prepping to virtually direct the last few weeks of shooting in Ireland on “The Last Duel” (Twentieth Century/Disney) starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, which was interrupted March 13. He has edited one hour of the period adventure after four weeks filming in France, and was trying to finish in time for a December 25 release date. (When the actors will be willing to turn up is another question.)

Hm so it won’t be eligible for this year’s Oscars, unless it gets cancelled and they merge the two years into one

An increasingly plausible possibility at this rate. Even with streaming now allowed there might just not be enough between now and February to hold a real ceremony.

The Last Duel has wrapped production in Ireland.

Thx

part 2 of that info made me laugh - in a surprised and agreeing way.

Having read quite a few non-fiction books out of and about that time, also seen a few of the screen versions, I totally can imagine him in that role.

Not sure about the title ‘Kitbag’ - I am guessing its meant as ~ duffle bag as so many military campaigns are part of the history of Napoleon. Or is there another meaning possible? See self-taught language limitations...
