The Last Duel - Ridley Scott, Matt Damon & Adam Driver | Christmas 2020 (limited), January 8 2021 (wide)

Yesterday, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the Irish government announced all travel restrictions within Ireland will be lifted on June 29th, and have shortened the gradual reopening of the country from 5 phases to 4, as a result of the decline in the number of new cases per day and the decline in deaths from COVID-19 per day (it's only within the past few days that we reached 25,000 confirmed cases).

While I'm not an expert, it does sound to me that there is a chance that filming could restart by August, if not mid-July, so long as appropriate measures are taken.

Which reminds me about how Ireland will commemorate his stay here during the hiatus:

Whispers News is a spoof site like the Onion, in case it wasn't obvious.

With a two-month extension, studios will have extra time to finish their movies and postpone release dates without sacrificing their chances at Oscar contention. Ridley Scott, for example, is prepping to virtually direct the last few weeks of shooting in Ireland on “The Last Duel” (Twentieth Century/Disney) starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, which was interrupted March 13. He has edited one hour of the period adventure after four weeks filming in France, and was trying to finish in time for a December 25 release date. (When the actors will be willing to turn up is another question.)

Dumb decision to get this ready for the Oscars. Climate favors different kind of movies. They should post-pone for 2021 and Oscars 2022.
