the story wasn't something that anyone, including AMPAS, would care about. just totally passion project for marty that no one else had passion for. Even reviews, while strong, weren't out of this world. And that type of a movie is really made for critics more than anyone else.

Speak for yourself.

This is the main reason behind everything most of the women have to suffer in this industry.

Please stop thinking like this.

This is coming from a person who is moderate at best.

we won't agree so I'm not gonna continue the discussion. I see your point and agree partly. Solution is, IMO, is giving more opportunities to film-makers with interest rather than forcing those without it to develop one overnight (which won't happen). Scorcese is old, he won't change and there's no point trying. Instead, keep invest in film-makers and projects that cover those interests and also stop writing women as "positive message" non-entities a la Rey, CM, most of blockbuster 'strong women" sterotypes that are too afraid to write actual characters.

Garfield was epically miscast, though.

if you made it today he and driver would probably switch roles and it might be even better. but garfield is still great. his best performance. he's kinda a try hard actor and its a try hard character so it suits him.

he's a good actor but his hair is always distracting lol. I don't know why. maybe it just grows the weird way.

Driver has the period look to him I'll give him that.  LOL, yesterday, someone trolled 4chan /tv/ that he was playing Vlad Drakula and they fell for it lmao!  they pulled out images and he actually does have a striking resemblance. :ohmygod:

Driver has incredible screen presence just like Benedict Cumberbatch.

They both are incredible actors and incredibly hot in weird way.

Martin movies seriously lack women.

Yeah, they really do. All of them save for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Taxi Driver, New York New York, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, After Hours, his segment in New York Stories, Goodfellas, Cape Fear, The Age of Innocence, Casino, The Aviator, Shutter Island, Hugo, The Wolf of Wall Street...

I wonder when he writes movies does he never think about a good role for women.

It's really weird.

And please don't come with argument that he is an artist blah.blah..

In my opinion representation and art goes hand in hand.

I can understand in one movie. Most of the Martin movies lacks strong female characters.

Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson both are also artist but they have also given strong female characters in many movies.

I mean how insensitive you have to be to  women to forget they exist while writing screenplays.

Just off the top of my head, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore or Age of Innocence prove your point wrong.

Feel like a lot of this type of criticism of Scorsese are coming from people who haven't really watched many of his movies.

 How mad were Matt and Ben after getting their first look at Driver in full costume? Surely, they agreed to their hair/makeup after being convinced it was accurate to the period, but there's a way to navigate that while still allowing your stars to look good...
