Rorschach
Just by the sheer number of films he has on my favorite films list, Spielberg is easily up there for me. In terms of others I really love: Scorsese, Miyazaki, Cameron, Cuaron, Aronofsky, and Tarantino are ones who have made 2 or more of my favorite films. mldardy
Nolan, Cameron, Spielberg, Scorsese, Fincher, PTA, and Tarantino for me. Yeah I know that's more than 1 and I don't care. Edited September 8, 2019 by mldardy

How so? I think you really only need one, maybe two great movies.

James Cameron only had one films in the past 20 years, i.e. Avatar and QT has 6 films over the same period with many of those were box office success, Oscar-darling and fathom . Joel M
For me it's a tie between Fincher, Tarantino and PTA. And I think it's 100% because they were the ones breaking out when I started getting really into movies. Seven, Pulp Fiction and Boogie Nights are among the first non-conventional movies I ever saw in my life. There's for sure other filmmakers older and more current that I adore just as much, but they don't have the same "I was there when it all began" feel for me.
35MM-18
That's tough. Especially since we all have different ideas. My list, though, for now would probably include these gentlemen: Wes Anderson Coen Brothers David Fincher Christopher Nolan Martin Scorsese Steven Spielberg Quentin Tarantino Denis Villeneuve
Avatree
I personally don't see how you can argue for it to be anyone other than Kubrick...
