Malignant | September 10 2021 | A James Wan Horror Joint

Oh man the poster looks way better than the trailer. Some neat stuff but it looks like a general forgettable horror film, and that's probably what I would expect if I didn't know James Wan directed it. Hopefully there's something to it, but yeah, I remember those ViewerAnon tweets.

Did it get bad responses at the test screening because its a faithful giallo (which would be divisive/not play well to general audiences) or is it just bad?

Hard to say. Obviously most people who see it won’t be familiar with giallo but I know it was heavily jeered during more than one screening on the WB lot.

Maybe just didn't click with audiences on test screenings, because i just read an Interview with Wan saying that this movie doesn't have jump scares, doesn't have much in common with his other "horror movies", have a hard to define genre, and confirm his inspirations on De Palma and Argento.

He also confirm the lack of informations is because he request the movie to be released without reveal much.

Maybe the problem isn't the movie itself afterall, it's just a different approach less commercial and the audience didn't click with it.
