Possible, but with the heat gone, I think Mamma Mia could be in for a tremendous hold.

At my theatre, I went to watch MM2 for round 3 last night, and it was busier than last saturday evening (not even joking). MM2 also has more scheduled times than Meg at my theatre.

If anything could stay flat, MM2 can do it

Apperently it was I2 who could do it ;)

The UK box office is doing solid business with the top 4 doing £2m+. I think Sony will be pleased with how The Equalizer 2 as will Disney with Christopher Robin.

I2 is in touching distance of £50m and I imagine it'll get there by either today or Wednesday. The Meg is the surprise hit of the summer and it'll probably end its run near or at £15m.

MM2 still pacing ahead of the first one. Could end anywhere between £65m-70m. Even IW can be caught.

What is it with Brits and ABBA? I am sure that they are not anywhere near as popular anywhere else, including Sweden.

Pretty sure they are:

MM2 is the biggest movie of 2018 in Sweden and the 2008 version destroyed the competition by a ridiculous amount:

1 Mamma Mia! UIP $25,059,113 7/11
2 Quantum of Solace Sony $8,990,483 10/31
3 The Dark Knight Sandrew $7,332,500 7/2

That more than the 21.3m Force Awaken did in 2015, more than Avatar 22m in 2009 even.

My bad then. Thanks for pointing this out to me. Is Mamma Mia number one of all time in Sweden?

this franchise is not so popular only because of Abba popularity or Across the Universe would be the most successful jukebox musical ever. Abba music is perfect for this kind of story, characters, locations, style of comedy etc... The combination of all this makes it a perfect product for its audience.

Just want to add that the movies themselves are widely regarded to just be so much fun

It's not just Sweden, it's also Norway $16.8M and Avatar had $14.2M and Kon-Tiki $14.1M.

In Iceland it's just second to Avatar in 2008-2018: Avatar: 1.128M and MM: 1.102M.

And just loving Abba doesn't mean the film will blow everything away. In Germany they have the fourth most sold Album, yet MM did only $39M (Avatar did $162M, TFA did $111M, Hobbit I did $89M, Hobbit II did $88M TLJ did $83M)

Guys, this is just a joke now...

"Disney’s Christopher Robin (DIS): $4.7M intl weekend (32 markets/3rd consecutive UK No. 1); $45.9M intl cume."

It's not that surprising, it's a UK creation, it was always going to fare better here.

I'll be curious what will do well in September, unlike last year or 2016, there's no real big standout. I think Crazy Rich Asians will do quite well although it's opening in a tough week with The Predator and King of Thieves. October looks very strong with Venom, A Star is Born, Johnny English in the first weekend of October followed by First Man and Bohemian Rhapsody
