I think most studios pick mid to late July for animated films so Pets has been able to pick the kid audience which hasn't had a family film in ages. It'll likely slow down with BFG and Dory in the next few weeks.

Mojoguy
Looks like releasing Dory so late is going to be a mistake for Pixar. Pets has gotten all the animated film attention in the UK.

The UK isn't China, we can support more than one big movie at a time, and Dory should be huge, just like the US and Aus. If what you say is correct, explain to me, how did Pets just break the original animated movie OW record in America when it's opened straight after Dory, which is the biggest animated move of all time in the US? Exactly.
SchumacherFTW
The bad move was opening Ice Age between two big buzzed about animated movies. Should have been kept for October Half Term. It's bloody terrible by the way, but I'm not the target audience.

Exactly. Universal released Pets earlier because they know Dory will open big so they earning as much money as they can know before the major kids competition start. Jonwo
Ouch for Ice Age, not even beating The Legend of Tarzan and Ab Fab without previews.
