UK Box Office Thread

That's fairly infantile. Maybe they should stop being so obsessed with the full theatrical window for this type of film so that they can exhibit it.

Hilarious that they’re trying to defend the art of cinema all of a sudden. When I worked there, films came second to concessions sales...

Roma wouldn’t have done well at a multiplex anyway, it’s far better suited to art house cinema audiences, and it played in those cinemas for quite a few weeks (anecdotally, it played at my local Curzon on and off for at least a month).

That's a truly astonishing performance from The Favourite. Going to go over 20m and beat Christopher Robin, Alita (probably), Quiet Place, Bumblebee, Spider-Verse, Kong:Skull Island, and Glass among others. I know historical UK-focused movies tend to do well here (Mary Queen of Scots and Stan and Ollie have had good performances too), but for a notoriously 'weird' director and barely linear film this has taken off wonderfully.

Lego Movie 2 seems to be doing well here relative to other places as well, have noticed good WOM and it may be the musical factor also. Might well finish above HTTYD3, which certainly doesn't look like it will be the case in most places.

Lots of people at Fighting With My Family at an afternoon showing yesterday, will be really interesting to see how it plays over here. Also has a lot of showings up here in Preston. Don't know if that's the same across the country. Similar pattern happened last week with Instant Family, which had way more for an afternoon showing than would be expected and has posted really strong numbers since.

The Kid Who Would Be King has had a shocker. Must have expected more than that from the UK Box Office, surely. And like others have said, it's not like the UK market can't take a lot of kids movies simultaneously, it has just been rejected.

Looks like Bohemian Rhapsody will hit £55m. Absolutely insane run.

What are people expecting for Captain Marvel? Pre-sales look quite strong, I’d say it’ll probably top Wonder Woman. Perhaps £7-8m 3-day.

Okay, just thought I'd check CW Crawley to see how Captain Marvel is doing in presales...

Midnights in IMAX:

8pm Friday IMAX:

Friday 9pm 4DX:

Friday 7:30pm 2D:

Overall, evening is looking overwhelmingly strong, however it has to be noted that anything before like 3-4pm has barely sold 20 tickets each. But this is a very encouraging sign regardless

I miss those screens, so much nicer than Stevenage.

I really miss when I'm at uni because my screens here don't compare to CW Crawley.

Even my nearest IMAX here for miles is the one at Birmingham NEC, and that's smaller than the bottom half of the Crawley IMAX... I really miss it :(

Thankfully when I go back for holidays I can go with parents and experience IMAX how it should be!

We are not sharing forecasts for this weekend because Captain Marvel is a huge outlier.

Off the record, our algorithms are spitting out a box office range between GBP 13M and GBP 27M.

Like fuck is it going anywhere near £20m

Given they have only been doing this for a short while and the UK box office has been shit since then I'm not surprised their comps are off.

Also it's only from the top 10 cinemas in the country (which doesn't feel particularly accurate).

Nonetheless this'll provide a comp for when Endgame comes round at least.

EDIT: However I would absolutely love for this to surprise and approach £20m :P Finally add some spark to this year.

UK thread has very good number of pages despite the fact there is very less live tracking that is done. Usually numbers are out after weekend only.

Aye. We try our best.

I'm not sure what you are referring to but lol. No. For one thing "13-27" is a ridiculously stupid range, like saying Captain Marvel will open in America between $150M and $300M. idiotic.

and those number themselves are wrong. it may reach £13M for sure that is possible I suppose. not above that.
