it is crazy one of the family films doesn't move up. Croods 2 would have been the obvious one with it being out elsewhere for so long, but maybe they didn't want to compete with F&F with both being Universal

Yeh I’m surprised about Croods 2 as well, I think a lot of families will have had illegal access to that one.

It honestly still baffles me that studios think that every single person in the UK is obsessed with football and can’t find the time for anything else for a month whenever the Euro’s or World Cup comes around. There’s definitely an audience out there who they could cater to with counter programming.

TBF the week the Euros start, there is Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard and In The Heights as well as older skewing content like The Father.

I don't see The Croods 2 or Spirit doing much, surprised Universal didn't release Croods in May or even June as it would have been a good option for families who have already seen Peter Rabbit 2.

Half term throwing good holds to Peter Rabbit and Cruella. A little disappointed with the Quiet Place opening NGL.

That’s more than the original though.

I’m surprised Peter Rabbit 2 is doing so much better than Cruella.

Box office was up 10% over last weekend. 80% of cinemas are now open, however all still have capacity guidelines.

Scotland remains at 3 empty seats on either side and every second row closed.

The Father and Nobody are out this week. No advertising really for Nobody (the trailer did play before Those Who Wish Me Dead last night), but The Father is everywhere.

In The Heights preview screening tomorrow.

It’s a shame about Nobody, it deserves far better than what Universal are setting it up for with the lack of advertising.

1.4m for Joker, 1.3m for Frozen 2 counting up to 31/12/20.

Frozen didn’t make the top 3 for digital sales. Joker was #1 on all three: disc, digital and VOD.

Downtown Abbey #1 in Physical, Frozen 2 #1 in Digital.

Box office took a big drop during the world cup 3 years ago so why take the risk? The semi finals of 2018 had 26.6m viewers out of a population of 67m, taking into account the rammed pubs and you're easily looking at 50m+ game. These events are only on every 2 years (3 given the pandemic) and it's part of our culture to hype up our eventual defeat. It brings everyone together including non football fans making counter programming difficult considering such a huge chunk is effected.

You also need to consider we are slowly getting some form of normality back. After the past year and the current heat wave, people are going to opt for outdoor socialising in pub/house gardens and watch the Euros over rushing back into a dark cinema.

Its shame football took over cricket in UK. More so when England team is now really great.

Football has always been bigger than cricket, mainly because a lot of the clubs have working class backgrounds. That and it's so accessible to actually play the game

I often read about this, but then Gully cricket is probably first main sport majority kids play in India. We have a certain bat like thingy in India to wash clothes, batted with that ALOT as a kid.

Problem with cricket is it's too long. Football is the biggest sport on the planet and the UK is fortunate enough to house the premiership which is the most competitive league in the sport so it's no surprise football is so popular here.
