James Bond Fever Hits U.K. Ahead of ‘No Time To Die’ World Premiere, Ticket Pre-Sales Are Biggest Since ‘Avengers: Endgame’

If ticket sales and overall levels of excitement are anything to go by, the situation is looking incredibly positive. Since advance No Time To Die tickets went on sale on Sept. 13, cinema owners have reported a nearly unprecedented level of demand, and by far and away the highest interest seen since pre-pandemic levels.

“It’s really, really good – it’s the best advanced sales we’ve seen for anything for a very, very long time,” said one exec working for a smaller regional U.K. chain, who added that sales were “far, far in excess of what we got for Tenet.”

In terms of how No Time To Die matches pre-pandemic releases, the exec says the “nearest equivalent” is Avengers: Endgame. “Endgame was the last one that probably had the same palpable sense of ‘this absolutely cannot be missed’ and there was a sense of urgency about seeing it as soon as possible.”

Avengers: Endgame would go on to smash U.K. box-office records with an opening weekend haul of $56.1 million — actually beating the record set by Spectre in 2015 — and amassing an overall figure of $115 million.

Despite high levels of optimism, few that THR spoke to are expecting No Time To Die to match those figures, but it’s clear that cinemas are doing everything in their power to ensure as many people attend as possible, so that they can capitalize financially on the biggest tentpole release since cinemas were forced to close in March 2020.

I think THR took leap forward with heading. There is a lot of area between far far excess of TENET and Endgame.

 

TRoS opened 20M+, since Star Wars is supposed to be more pre-sales heavy, if pre-sales are bigger than TRoS, it shouldn't have problem opening 20M+.

Booked my Bond tickets for Friday night. Pre-sales as expected looking very strong, I reckon £20m for the 4 day is a good bet but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a bit higher.

With increased prices, I think ATP will be close to GBP10-11. So only need 1.8M admits for 20M opening. 

 

I randomly checked 20 theaters in Cineworld, they had 510 shows for THU, i.e. 25 shows per locs on average. The same average in Vue was 21 from 10 checked. 21 in 20 Odeons. 22 in Showcase.

 

Using this average, gives 7.1k plus shows a day in these major chains from 320+ sites. We may get accurate count when @Menor checks out. There are other 187 multiplex sites, which must have 2k plus shows and 250+ single screen which will have probably 1500 shows.

 

Round about 11K shows a day for NTTD. Need only 41 admits per show average for 20M plus opening. That should be done quite easily I suppose. Endgame probably had 120 admits per show with ~4.8M admits.

Yeah 30M+ or bust.

Yes, biggest opening weekend in gross, but I guess TLK may be bigger in admits. 

TLK opened with £16,671,764. I confused it with 25M+ opening in AUS.

Increasing trend with each film. A normal 3-4 days launch for Spectre would have probably meant ~£25M FSS. Now with record release (45K+ shows) and hiked tickets, should try £20M+ FSS at least.

Not done deal. It could very well be 15M, I am saying it should do 18M+, less than that will be blech.

Odeon have been doing a Blockbuster fee for certain movies for a few years now, so a Shang Chi ticket now is cheaper than opening weekend. Cineworld jumping the price like this is new though.

Cineworld shares have popped this morning and last week. I think the market is expecting good things from here on out

Shang-Chi was £11.99 at my local Cineworld when it first came out, same as James Bond. I have an unlimited card so I don’t usually notice.
 

But yeh, no difference here between Shang-Chi & James Bond price wise on opening weekends.

Cineworld haven’t increased the price just for Bond at my local. Shang Chi was the same at £11.99 when it first came out, now it’s £9.99.

Looked at a few Vue's around London. They'd been doing their same price all day every day thing for a long time, but for NTTD they've reintroduced peak pricing after 5pm at least for this weekend.
