Based Tyler Perry keeping the genre alive single handedly!

After Aladdin, Pikachu and MiB, he does have the highest grossing live action comedy film of the year, so you’re partially right about that.

Aladdin and Pikachu is not comedy...

MIB is genre comedy.

Critics would face basically no backlash if they hammered good boys and yet 84% top critic rating. 91 audience rating. Holy crap

They like it as much as the general critics to 6.56 avg.  Solid.

Looking at the RT % alone though and their increasingly silly consensuses w/o avg - especially this week doesn't tell the full  story

Angry Birds 2:

74% /5.68 avg

Like its non-aerodynamic title characters, The Angry Birds Movie 2 takes improbable yet delightfully entertaining flight, landing humorous hits along the way.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette

45% /  5.51 avg

Where'd You Go, Bernadette offers dispiriting proof that a talented director, bestselling source material, and terrific cast can add up to far less than the sum of their parts.

Uh, huh

2nd Update, Friday Midday: Universal’s Good Boys is headed for a surprise opening of $20M. Industry estimates have it there after what is expected to be an $8M Friday.

If these projections maintain, Good Boys will rep the biggest comedy opening of the year with Universal boating the the biggest comedy openings of the past three years following last September’s Night School and 2017’s Girls Trip. Good Boys is also poised to be the first R-rated comedy at No. 1 since Uni opened The Boss back in April 2016. Nobody does comedy nowadays better than Universal. The numbers speak for themselves.

More from DL

Quote

Disney’s Lion King is third with an estimated $11.7M in weekend 5 at 3,560 theaters with a total by Sunday of $495.9M.

Angry Birds 2 is seeing $8.7M in 4th place which would bring its 6-day total to $14.4M.

CBS Films’ Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is eyeing 5th place with $8.1M in weekend 2 with $38.2M by Sunday.

Whatever for Lion King. lol Angry Birds and :( for Scary Stories. I expected it, because I know WOM ain't so hot, but I enjoyed it quite a bit and was kind of hoping it would catch on a bit more. Guess it could be worse though.

So about half of Sony's $16-17 million expectations for the weekend. Comparing 6-day totals, that would be a 68.5% drop from the first film.

They could always go up since it's still Friday afternoon on the East Coast, but jeez those numbers for Dora and Angry Birds are not looking good — neither does the other non-Good Boys openers.

The thing is, it isn't like there's no ROOM at the box office for Dora and Angry Birds, which makes their performances all the more perplexing (especially given how they are both apparently much better than they have any right to be).

Sad to see a movie spewing toxic masculinity and teaching boys to be profane and annoying doing so well. I thought we were past promoting this type of behaviour after The Hangover.

mm in the trailers there was a scene promoting asking for consent before you kiss someone. I do agree the swearing is a bit excessive. I don't think 11  year old boys actually talk like that lol.
