Top 100 Movies of the 1970s - October 6th is deadline

You're not taking lists or writing the write-ups, are you?

I don't anticipate any TV movies making it on though. But there is some original TV material from the 80s I would allow on a 80s list, partly because they got theatrical releases in other places.

Spielberg's Duel was released theatrically in other countries, too.

Yea Duel had a theatrical release.

And sorry what I was supposed to say was If This Were my project I wouldn't be allowing TV movies. But it's not mine so whatever the rules are the rules are.

Well true, but lots of famous directors did stuff for TV in the 1970s and 1980s.

I figure that if someone wants to use their vote on a TV show and no one else agrees with them, nothing is lost (except for that person who used a vote on a TV show).

A TV show is different enough, format-wise, not to be considered for a movie list, IMO. A TV movie? Ehhhh, you could stretch to include, if you were so inclined, especially if it had some sort of theatrical release elsewhere.

I actually don't think I, Claudius really qualifies. I just didn't want to be mean and say "well this TV material counts but this TV material doesn't count".

Even though he TV material I think can count, which was short form and also directed by directors famous for directing theatrical movies, got actual theatrical releases internationally.

That being Berlin Alexanderplatz, Fanny and Alexander and Dekalog, although none of those three were released in the 1970s.

Spielberg's Duel, on the other hand, was released theatrically somewhere.

There is also Roots, which while it was not released theatrically anywhere as far as I know, is short form, and influential.

Roots is not an eligible entry.

Ah, if TV is also allowed:

I, Claudius

= one of my all time favourites.

Yeah TV movies are allowed.

This is a miniseries so it wouldn't be eligible

ROOTS isn’t a movie, though. Unless you want your list to be audio/visual entertainment of the 1970s.

I realize this, but to go along with you two would mean reversing my original position with @terrestrial, and I don't know if that's fair.

Dekalog is also a miniseries, but it's also a film.

Don't worry, anyone who submits All in the Family will have their entire list thrown out.

....

I had not planed to add it since the hint of Tele, I do see the difference between TV-movie and a TV-mini series.

I was only reacting to ~ full tv series wording of him, that it is not as we split the versions here, as mentioned, the same term gets often used slightly differently or very different in different countries or regions.

Agree to the other points, so many movies do get in one country a cinema release and not in another one, a few are so low budget it can be difficult to remember the feel if it was more this or that.

see above

Imagine this:

I read:

TV goes too, me, new to participating to the ranking lists here and as such not familiar with the rules, read it, didn't even think about it, as it sits so high on my all time favourite lists ...

I have already a list of 219 titles, see earlier, I do not need another one anyway, I need the quiet to sit down and reduce, reduce, reduce to get to the 100 😉

Its fair, beside we posted nearly at the same time, see above 😉

OK, new ruling.

I, Claudius and Roots are not eligible.

Duel is still eligible, primarily because it was released in other countries theatrically.

Don't you think some of you guys are making this way too complicated?

Roots?  Are you serious?

Theatrical release only.  Not that difficult.
