Six lists officially received (by PM) so far. Thanks for the submissions!

Just for fun, some stats:

7 films have been present on five lists.

91 films have appeared on only one list.

Am I not understand this correctly? You're saying that no film has appeared on all six lists? So you are telling me that somebody has actually kept Star Wars and Jaws off of their list? How can you be a fan of films and not have those films listed in your top 100?

You are indeed understanding it correctly. There's a reason why I felt compelled to post the stats so early.

I love Jaws and it will do very well on my list, but I always thought Star Wars was highly overrated. Not that it's bad, just it's not great. I have it 37th out of 67 on my list, if actually saw 200+ films like some people here then it would likely be gone.

A lot of great movies there.

I started ordering mine by first choosing a top 50 and from there I just kept splitting them into smaller chunks.  It helps that the scoring system isn't a strict 1-100 and there are blocks scoring the same points.

I loooooove New Hollywood Cinema.  I totally went through a phase in high school where I just had The Graduate - Cabaret - MASH on repeat.  (Hence the joke about starting the "1970s" list in 1967 and ending it in 1977.  The "1970s" starts with Bonnie and Clyde and ends with Star Wars.)

Makes it easier for me to focus less on the "ranking" and more on the cluster of points so I don't obsess.

I also just did a first pass or "seen enough times" and "need to revisit.  So I ranked the "seen enough times" and then plan to add in the "revisited" films once we get them.  TCM has a bunch a good ones in September, so I'm working my way through that (When I'm Not getting *~*~distracted~*~* by Gene Kelly)

yeah but I don't care if you have it ranked 37th or 67th or whatever. There are actually people who have submitted the list that have not put Jaws or Halloween or Star Wars on their list. That just doesn't make any sense to me

Only if you can prove they've been played theatrically somewhere in the world. I know Steven Spielberg's Duel was.

That'll be pretty hard to prove

A shame since George Cukors  Olivier/Hepburn Love Among The Ruins would make my top  20

IMDB has a list of foreign release dates but I have no idea if they're TV or theatrical, though it was produced by ABC TV so probably not theatrical. :sadno:

Wikipedia might have something. That's how I found out about Duel.

Consider being a teen and watching them today vs everything you've already seen.  With one being shot on a low budget and the other 2 relying on a lot of effects, you might just not be wowed...

Not saying I agree, but I can totally see my teens making lists of the 70's movies they've watched that would bear little resemblance to what I'd consider the quality movies of the decade.

PS - And if I submit a list, mine would also probably draw jeers b/c Monty Python won't be anywhere near mine...in any form:)...
