TBH Warner Bros and Lionsgate probably could come to an agreement that in exchange for May 2021 for Matrix, Lionsgate gets a different preferred date for John Wick 4. I think March 5th 2021 could work for John Wick since WB has moved Mortal Kombat to January 2021.

I am sure JW4 wont make it at the same date. It could be 2022 release. This is nothing like CW. Matrix is a big brand despite revolutions souring GA. after 16 years with proper marketing I feel its hype should be big. Though nothing close to the hype Reloaded had.

Jurassic Park and Star Wars were both big after their franchises were dormant for 14 years. Matrix has been dormant for a similar amount of time. I see this being big like TPM and JW, but just on a smaller scale since of the R-rating. John Wick will be the movie to move.

There was no point of mad max 4, but it came and gave folks something to cheer about. However, it was a flop.

Moving to this date isn’t a credible threat so I’d expect WB to end up moving the Matrix 4 elsewhere

Either this or John Wick 4 has to move. It isn't even a question of whether one of them will. They are both action movies starring the same actor.

I don't think Lionsgate will want to give up the box office sweet spot that make John Wick 3 successful. It feels like WB picked that date for Matrix 4 without thinking about it.

Yeah, Mad Max 4 came and was only the best movie ever made in the history of cinema. And still is.

 

The new Matrix (trilogy?) will be far from perfect, of course - but at least it will allow the trans-sisters to reclaim the BO throne and have their revenge on all you backwater people, who could not apprehend how incredibly ahead of its time their Jupiter Ascending was.
