The Matrix Resurrections | December 22 2021 | Keanu, Lana Wachowski back

Recommended Posts

What I believed happened is the matrix ip is owned by WB but Wachowskis have first rights to next film which is resurrections. They did not want this film to be made after WB was pressuring them so Lana Wachowski gave the finger to WB , the audience and finished the franchise for herself.

now WB has Full authority to completely cut off Wachowskis from future matrix films which I strongly believe if it occurs will be a reboot from a renowned director

Watched it today following a rewatch of the other three over the last few days.  I thought it was solid.  Doesn't live up to the original, but it's far better than Reloaded and Revolutions.  Performances were good.  The meta-commentary is intentionally heavy handed and explicit, but the more subtle themes still come through.

It’s truly surprising just how little people care about this franchise. I thought a Matrix 4 could’ve been a straight billion dollar movie in non-covid times.

It could've been a big hit with good reception and Hugo Weaving/Laurence Fishborn coming back, in non-covid times. General audience and fans just rejected the movie.

For me, I’m conflicted. On one hand, I’m hopeful that this will prevent WB from milking the franchise in the near future, which I’m pretty sure the Wachowski’s are against anyway. On the other hand, I’m annoyed that the “red pill” dumbasses view this as some kind of victory.

is young Morpheus in this movie part of meta commentary ?  like didn't wb want a young Morpheus movie with Michael b Jordan

It isn't. Given that Fishburne wasn't even asked to return, they probably just wanted a fresher face in the role in an attempt to boost appeal among the demographic that was barely alive when the original trilogy came out. There's different reports about why Weaving didn't come back but it wouldn't be much of a surprise if the studio also insisted on a younger (translation: hotter) actor instead.
