Fox Searchlight's R-rated, semi-comic horror film Ready or Not is hunting down an opening day gross of roughly $1.5 million, possibly good enough to come in No. 2 behind Good Boys, according to early Wednesday returns.

Wednesday's number will include $730,000 from Tuesday evening previews. The film could earn as much as $15 million in its five-day debut; on Friday it faces competition from Lionsgate's action pic Angel Has Fallen, which is tracking for a debut in the low- to mid-teens.

That seems pretty okay all things considered.

Much better than 1.5M. That means real Wednesday was 1.2M.

The 1.5M projection from earlier would be a multiplier similar to Annabelle Comes Home, so this is a very good sign.

It is very good. Given that we're now in late August and it probably isn't too frontloaded I wouldn't rule out a 5-day launch similar to Midsommar.

This feels like a big CS vs PostTrak gap, no?

Quote

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, Ready or Not was praised by critics with a 91% certified fresh score, and so far has a good CinemaScore of B+. PostTrak exits were lower at 3 stars and a 50% recommend.
