Became DC's highest grossing movie in Mexico (lc) today. $32M total give or take.

According to Deadline.com:

 

1. Joker made $9 million today (Friday the 18th), which is -46.5% from last Friday's $16 million.

2. They suggest Joker may possibly beat Maleficent 2 - possibly.

3. The Joker is set to gross $30.1 million at the weekend compared to the $55 million last week which is a -41.0 decrease compared -41.9 which is less (or possibly equal) of a decrease than last weekend - UTTERLY INSANE!

 

BIG NEWS FROM VARIETY!

Angelina Jolie’s “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” is heading for an opening weekend of about $35 million at 3,790 North American locations — significantly below forecasts, early estimates showed on Friday.

 

So the estimations are:

1. Maleficent 2 - $35 million

2. Joker - $30.1 million

3. Zombieland 2 - $26.6 million

Whoops my mistake it's -46.5% which is pretty amazing! If you think it's only dropped beyond -50% once, and the one day it dropped that much was the Friday after the first-opening week Friday. Venom did not have legs like this ...

-Venom: 5.08 (October 19th)

-Bohemian Rhapsody: 4.29 (November 16th)

-Logan: 4.68 (March 17th)

-Gravity: 9.01 (October 18th)

-Deadpool 2: 6.69 (June 1st)

-Justice League: 4.54 (December 1st)

-Deadpool: 8.87 (February 26th) 

 

So Joker was pretty much on par with Gravity's gross on Friday. That's actually quite good

International weekend is as follows

Opening weekend is everything (inclu previews, even if territories don't inclu previews locally in OPWE numbers ) up to Sunday,if a territory opens after 1st international  weekend it the same (so that territories previews+ opening weekend in that weekends international total, and same rule with previews its included even if its not locally )

Also conversion to $us is based on Studio/distributors intercompany rates (which can be a monthly rate)

keysersoze, how high do you think Joker can make in domestic market ?

With normal legs from now on Joker should finish with 640m OS with 42% drop also there are school breaks, halloween holiday and few more holiday in Japan. Japan in Saturday also still overperform that 45m become realistic now also Germany overperform with 10 more. 

Do you think 340 domestic still possible ?

Given that it's only dropped below -50% once - the following Friday after its opening Friday -, it's very possible. I can't remember if it was Forbes or Deadline, but one of them suggested it could surpass Aquaman's $335 million domestic gross; I mean the fact that Joker is set to gross $30.1 million at the weekend compared to the $55 million last week which is a -41.0% decrease compared -41.9% which is less of a decrease than last weekend - UTTERLY INSANE!

Unfortunately it'll gross less than 30 this weekend unless it'll have big Saturday increase and relatively small Sunday drop, it has smaller Friday than Deadline estimated.

Weirdly Joker increase much more than Maleficent from Fri to Sat.

 

Maleficent (68%), Joker (110%)

Now surely it will increase this weekend. 

Good chance for 40m+ finish.

With not so good domestic hold, It is quite safe to say that this film won't break 1b, but still well on track to beat DP to be the biggest worldwide r-rated film

Even a 3x is a "pretty good hold", just not enough to reach a billion (and that's still not definitive, as it could theoretically make even crazier numbers overseas). Just a month ago the idea of breaking a billion seemed impossible, so there's no disappointment. It just didn't do the "impossible".
