Deadpool 2 opening is kinda high when compared to other MCU movies.

Something around the conjuring movies would be a good turnout

This will open way bigger than the Conjuring, especially since the controversy will have zero negative bearing

What age rating is the movie getting? Could it get the biggest opening for an A rated movie?

Nope. Not even 1/3rd. For Hollywood perhaps 60% of The Nun (that's best that comes to mind)

Here is my post from the NZ thread about Joker pre-sales.

Albany Event Cinemas -Joker opening day (Thur 3/10/2019) 3 days before release

12:45pm 23/364

3:30pm 22/364

6:00pm GC 23/40

6:15pm 41/364

8:45pm GC 20/40

9:00pm 31/364

Total 160/1536 (10.41%)

Comps

17.28% of TLK (sold 926 tickets at same point) which would be a $883,008 opening weekend.

56.34% of It Chapter 2 (sold 284 tickets at the same point) which would be a $509,293 opening weekend.

139.13% of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (sold 115 tickets at the same point) which would be a $1.14m opening weekend.

Not a great start for Joker but tickets did go on sale later than most bug releases, hopefully it will pick up pace in the next couple of days will check again 12 hours before release like I normally do. At the moment looking like it will fall short of a $1m opening and if it plays like It Chapter 2 may even struggle to break a half million dollar opening here in New Zealand.

Also this is my first time tracking a superhero movie but for reference a lot of superhero movies regularly top $1m opening weekend, recently Aquaman and Spider-Man both topped $1.5m and Captain Marvel topped $2m. Joker seems more in line with Shazam which opened with just over $800,000 at the moment hopefully that will improve as the hype/buzz hopefully translates to more ticket sales.

Spain (biggest theater of the country)

4 days to release

584 tickets sold

At the same point, "Far from home" had sold 1,088. Applying the same proportion, Joker would open to €2.1m, although I guess that Joker could have more walk-ups. This is not the same kind of film than FFH.

All set to become DC's biggest opener in India. Release on around just 700 screens and sandwiched between 2 one of the biggest movies still going to get a $1.2M+ on opening day.

3 days to release

Fri-Sun presales

FFH: 1,282 tickets

TLK: 1,916

Joker: 959

Presales are picking up. Joker is at a 75% of FFH and 50% of TLK at the same point. Applying the same proportion, it would mean about €3m OW.

To put into context, it would be in the same league than Suicide Squad, Venom, GOTG2 or Deadpool 2 (all of them opened to 3-3.2 million), and over Aquaman, Black Panther or Logan (2.3-2.6 million range).

Joker is releasing tomorrow in India.

On about just 600 Screens in just English language on premium plexes.

Advance is simply incredible. A $1.5M opening is confirmed. Rest depends upon walkups as tomorrow is a pretty big holiday.

Put on a happy face!

This has hype and Joker is as well known a character as there is. I wish it could have had a middle kingdom release but well its going to pull a Suicide Squad kind of run.

This movie is the definition of hype here in my country and hopefully the same in the rest of Latin America.

Without the bad press like the US this could be really big OS.

Chile (usually good bellwether for the rest of SA):

Joker, 2 days before release, 17% of the market

62 showings for OD | 14.742 seats available | 3975 tickets sold

100,02% of Captain Marvel  ($2,3m USD) and 106% of Spider-Man FFH ($1,7m USD). Joker faded a bit in the comps but there is a catch. Both CM and FFH had twice as many seats as Joker (over 29k seats and over one hundred showings). The fact that it still managed to remain ahead of them show a great strenght. It does, however, face worse ER (basically at record lows right now)

This reminds me of the hype for Suicide Squad

What’s with WB screwing up all the DC releases in India... always only available in English?!
