JOKER OS THREAD // 738.5M OS // 1.074B WW

Matrix 4 has no shot at a billion.  The sequels were mixed reactions at best and it's been far too long now since the original Matrix exploded on the scene.  I'm not saying it won't do very well but don't expect it to do crazy numbers.

Deadpool 3 we don't know if it'll get made and if it does get made I don't think Disney will go for rated R.

let's do, OS-Europe. that would be nice.:Venom:

thing is Joker happened to be a CBM with a genre that do well in Europe. Had it even released in China, going by Taiwan numbers, we are looking at Wonder Woman numbers.

CBMs aren't that big genre overseas, yeah they open big & CBMs are the best performers recently because other things have been shit plus to their negative, they sell better in Asia where tickets are priced low. A 5mn admits in India, Indonesia, Malaysia or Mexico will only get you $13mn while in Germany that's $60mn or even $75mn in Japan.

China sure helps, but at cost of Europe & Japan, the two markets that can even take a trash Fantastic Beasts Crimes of Grindelwald to $500mn internationally.

If Endgame was able to become biggest grosser ever overcoming the genre negative in Europe, Japan and to an extent even China, that's a huge feat.

Even though Joker is big in Europe and Japan, let's not undermine it by saying only in Europe. It's already/will be highest grossing solo SH in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and become #1 DC movie in Latin America despite tragic currency. In Africa it's also doing very good like in UEA and Egypt. Let's say only in Asia it's doing normally what average SH done. Even then it's result in Southeast Asia and East Asia still respectable enough. In SK for example it matched AQM, also no way we can know for sure what it can make in China. Even if we use WW number in China it still will win over CM ,AQM , SM FFH and potentially CA:3 for WW total. With much lower budget, no 3d, R rating and far lesser action.

Also why would we compare admission number in Asia and Europe. Of course in Asia it will sell much more, 4.5B people compare with 740m in Europe and also of course with same admission in Europe it will make lesser because Europe average economy is far more developed and Asia still catching with huge GDP percentage increase each year.

Lastly why pointing out Europe and Japan helping Fantastic Beast 2 reach 500m, with HP franchise success. That's expected number. Lets not pretend how many average or shit movie that helped by Asia-Japan to even greater heights than expected mostly by China. Ex. last year alone : Rampage and The Meg.

Lmao people who are trying  to say (now) that Joker was only strong in Europe, Joker is probably the biggest solo superhero movie ever in Latin America too (for example), I don't have exact numbers, but I'm almost sure because Joker is the biggest in the 2 biggest markets (which is Mexico and Brazil), he beat all the other solo movies, not just R rated movies, PG13 movies too and that includes movies like Black Panther, Aquaman, Spider Man Far from Home, Captain Marvel ...

so all the negative opinions for captain marvel or endgame are from dc fanboys got it ......................., at the same time the same goes to opposite based on your logic, that means that everyone who defends joker is dc fanboys, also got it, thanks for the logic lessons

ps cut the bullshit mate, like it or not opinions are opinions, and everyone has the right to have one, without a fanboy to call them out

p 1 so everyone who defends joker, is right, and everyone who is underestimate joker is wrong, are you sure you are not a fanboy yourself ?

To be honest one of the guys who downplays Joker's gross literally has "Marvel fanboy" nickname.

Is there a list of all the countries where it's known that Joker passed Endgame?

Portugal, Greece, Finland, Lithuania, Egypt, Croatia already did that and Poland ( still waiting confirmation if it did that last weekend or need another week).

Spain and Switzerland have a chance to join too.

BR had backlash due to Singer but there were no cancelled screenings or spooking out the public with forcasts of impending mass shootings. it was "you see Joker, you risk getting killed".

Literally saw none of this. Then again UK doesn't gave guns. What BR msde was genre defying, it was much more surprising than another comic book movie hitting a billion.

It's almost as if the Joker was a huge iconic character which did well in newly expanded markets that enjoy CBM's. So unexpected...

Matrix did leave a bad taste but it's been long enough that a reboot could draw interest. Let's not forget Keanu Reeves has had a huge boost in popularity as of late so now is the perfect time to reignite that franchise.

Such a stupid argument, BvS and Justice League with a bunch of huge iconic characters at the same time say hi. Or The Amazing Spider-Mans. And I wonder why those don't have x3.5-5+ multipliers then? I think you'll figure it out ;)

Because they were all shit with terrible WOM, yet they still made more than the average MCU movie back in the day due to their iconic characters, like seriously how dumb is your reply? Thank you for proving my point 😉

It was an American issue, which was the reason why everything changed when Joker went from Venice to TIFF ~

However, BR was very much a British film, a very "safe" film (which was one of the reasons Cohen left), wasn't R-rated, was released in China, wasn't a controversial film for the most part - though they censored certain scenes for the China release, and much of the Singer debacle wasn't as visible as it should have been), as well as it being as much a Queen film as much as it was a Freddie film. Plus the Queen IP - one of the biggest bands of all time - shouldn't be understated or underestimated at all.

With Joker you have to consider the American media, the political-bias from some Rotten Tomatoes critics, cancelling of screenings, media manipulation in that one's life will be at risk, the present of undercover offers at the cinemas (especially the NYPD and LAPD), the US Army sending out warnings, the investigation from the FBI and Homeland Security, so on and so forth.

Joker just surpassed Bohemian Rhapsody in the UK - and you have to understand that there's a reason why Full Monty held that record for over 22 years ~

Oh jesus christ. No biography has made anywhere close to what BR made, even the michael Jackson biography who is arguably a more well known IP was nowhere near the success BR was. It towers above anything in its genre, it was an anomaly.

Joker on the other hand now mark's the 2nd time a 2d movie featuring the Joker and not released in china has gone on to make 1b WW, and you are trying to compare them in terms of how surprising they were? Come on 😂
