Cmasterclay
The big surprise to me there is Uncut Gems in Comedy. Yea yea, Adam Sandler But Sadfie Brothers + the trailer + the reviews + tons of comparisons to very much not a comedy Good Time made me think Drama for sure.
SLAM!
My updated predictions. Best Actor Drama Christian Bale (Ford V. Ferrari) Adam Driver (Marriage Story) Paul Walter Hauser (Richard Jewell) Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes) alt: Robert De Niro (The Irishman) If Bardem missed for Biutiful, and if Bichir missed for A Better Life, then Banderas can easily miss for Pain & Glory. I also think De Niro will be snubbed. Best Actress Drama Cynthia Erivo (Harriet) Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story) Saoirse Ronan (Little Women) Charlize Theron (Bombshell) Renee Zellweger (Judy) alt: Alfre Woodard (Clemency) I was hoping some of those films would go to the Comedy/Musical category instead of the Drama one because I'm rooting for Alfre Woodard... it might not be too late because the HFPA can deny entrance into a category, but those five I put in there feel rock solid. Best Actor Comedy/Musical Daniel Craig (Knives Out) Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) Taron Edgerton (Rocketman) Eddie Murphy (Dolemite is My Name) Adam Sandler (Uncut Gems) alt: Zack Gottsagen (The Peanut Butter Falcon) Four of these actors are iron tight. A24 took a gamble and won big-time for Sandler--with Driver and Pryce both being campaigned for Drama. I have Daniel Craig in the lineup as to acknowledge how clever Lionsgate was to divide and conquer by pairing Bombshell with Drama and Knives Out for Comedy. Plus, Ansel Elgort got noticed in this category for a film with a similar tone. I have Zack Gottsagen as an alt because he's the heart and soul of his film. Best Actress Comedy/Musical Awkwafina (The Farewell) Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) Francesca Hayward (Cats) Julianne Moore (Gloria Bell) Constance Wu (Hustlers) alt: Emma Thompson (Late Night) A24 would be foolish not to position Awkwafina for a nomination in Comedy/Musical, even if the film is in the foreign category. That being said, this is a particularly dry year for this category. If Gunpowder & Sky is somehow able to make Elizabeth Moss (Her Smell) a possibility with a "this film has song numbers" argument, that would make this category a lot more exciting. Speaking of "films with song numbers," Jessie Buckley could be a possibility for Wild Rose.
filmlover
Even though the Globes have been trying to move beyond obvious ass-kissing in recent years (for the most part, at least), I definitely wouldn't doubt them going all in on a DiCaprio/Pitt/Robbie/Tarantino collaboration. Jake Gittes
I'd expect Knives Out to make screenplay. Di Caprio vs Murphy vs Sandler could get interesting. Awkwafina would have a real chance to win in comedy/musical if submitted

filmlover
Something tells me they're gonna follow the Oscars and the Emmys and go without a host this year. What's funny is that for so many years the Globes didn't have a host until this decade when they added one in an attempt to emulate the Oscars before being the Oscar host became the most thankless and unwanted gig in Hollywood (the only times anyone has really noticed the Oscar hosts this decade have been when they flopped ala Franco/Hathaway or NPH). BoxOfficeFangrl
Ugh, didn't miss him AT ALL after his first hiatus but I guess it's a thankless job few people want and the Sandra Oh co-host experiment didn't go that well last year. For years, the Globes went without a host and it was absolutely fine. I miss the days of the cheesy musical remix intros: There was one for "Don't Cha" that isn't online but get a taste of some of the lyrics: http://gawker.com/149141/behind-the-golden-globes-music-the-ggs-dont-cha Edited November 12, 2019 by BoxOfficeFangrl

It's hilarious to see these entitled actors faces when they get subjected to typical British banter.
