Joker Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report Final Count

Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold
TOTALS 0 168 4,910 31,750 15.46%

Total Seats Sold Today: 1,471

Comp

2.581x of Once Upon's final count (14.97M)

1.417x of It: Chapter Two's final count (14.88M)

Adjusted Comp

0.508x of Lion King's final count (11.68M)

2.410x of Hobbs & Shaw's final count (13.98M)

Fantastic final day here. Once Upon started at 4, while It 2 started at 5, and had IMAX and PLFs and no 3D, so 15M seems like the probable answer...but everyone else's comps are pointing to somewhere around 11M, so I do think Philly is overperforming this time around, so don't take my numbers too seriously.

But watch me being right and this ends up making 15M tonight 🙄

Quick X-Post to get some more of those sweet, sweet reactions from the people

Another update. Nice to see Joker crossing 21K tickets in dozen odd plexes in Ny/NJ. That is 40% of tickets sold and still we have late night shows that could fill up close to show time. 3518 tickets at Empire 25. That is more than double IT2 final number at Empire and we still have few more shows to go. I think final number will exceed 3600. AMC Newport 11 almost sold out most of its shows.

EXCLUSIVE Thursday night: Warner Bros/Village Roadshow’s R-rated Joker is looking excellent tonight, on its way to $10M+ in previews which began at 4PM. That’s the same amount of money that Sony’s PG-13 Venom made a year ago, which set an October Thursday night record, off shows that began at 5PM in 3,543 locations. As we always asterisk, these forecasts do not come from Warner Bros, but Deadline sources.

So far we hear from industry insiders that there aren’t any security threats at theaters for Joker. RelishMix indicates that social media chatter is leaning positive, ranking a high of 7 out of their 10 scale “thanks to fans of the character and a wider audience interest based on the trailers and news surrounding the film.”

Early Deadline Preview Estimate: 10m+

Do you think Mistah J can rake in 100m this weekend?

Not entirely convinced. Like I said, my comps are very optimisitc with most others saying somewhere around 11.5M or so. If it follows Venom with a non-inflated Sunday (It opened on Columbus weekend, which Joker won't have the luxury of):

11.5

37.4 inc. previews

30.3 (-19%)

19.7 (-35%)

87.4M OW

90M+ can still happen, but unless preview numbers are super high, I don't see 100M. But that's my own personal opinion of course

Just out of Joker, 8.5. The “controversy” is so overblown. In fact, I was expecting the film to be even more disturbing than it ended up being.

It's a studio film. I don't think it goes off the mainstream.

$10M+ from DL doesn't say much but that was to be expected.

That doesn't sound too good, any comparison to Venom/IT2?

Wonder if this "social media chatter", in this case, picks up various Twitter controversies and hot takes.

More from the article:

Quote

“For those who are excited to see Joker in theaters, several elements pop to the top of the list. Joaquin Phoenix’s performance is certainly at the center of convo, with references to his previous movies, victories at film fests this Fall, not to mention the goosebumps-inducing trailers. Other positive sentiment comes from the genuine look at mental illness with a traditionally villainous character as its center. The movie looks and feels less like a superhero movie to some and more like an awards season offering unlike anything they’ve seen before.  But, for traditional comic-book/superhero genre fans, this looks like LoganDeadpool and other avant garde takes on their favorite characters and themes. These fans like the Marvel vs DC discussion, as well as the trading of ideas related to how this genre continues to evolve,” reports RelishMix tonight.

In other words, not a lot hard crunch in there.

Rest of the article looks to have been pre-written this morning and contains quite a few things that would just lead to flames in this thread, or at least tedious arguments, so I'm leaving them to the side for now.  Still, it's at the link if folks want to read it.
