Joker movie is trending here in Denmark and tickets are doing blockbuster numbers. Reviews are 4,5/6 on average and WOM is even better.

Also it had a 70% increase in Italy and it looks set to overtake F8 OW and there is a chance it will overtake Beauty and the Beast as the 3rd highest grossing opening weekend of all time there.

It’s also breaking out big time in UK considering the ER and that it is Rated R.

SK,Mexico and Spain are also amazing.I think Joker might beat Venom’s worldwide opening as well.

Why does Denmark score out of six? Weirdos.

It’s a 15 here in the UK though, not an 18 like Once Upon a Time, Ready or Not etc.

But yeh, no one under 15 allowed, even accompanied.

To be honest, I thought Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was harsh with the 18. It's got more swearing, but violence-wise, it's similar to Joker, I thought.

1 star for each finger we have on our hands

Hmm... what troubles me about that statement is that it implies you guys have to count on your fingers. I need to re-evaluate my image of Nordic education systems. Clearly, socialism has destroyed you!

And funny thing is that OUaTIH is actually based on true horrifying events and yet it’s held to a different standard by the media than Joker.Anyone could tell things like “it glorifies violence” and “can be dangerous” for OUATIH but nope...seems some critics have a short term memory loss or their hatred for Jo,er comes for a very personal place and not from a cinematic perspective.

P.S : I love both movies

To be fair, Tarantino's gotten shit for his violence since...forever. I mean, his "Because it's fun, Jan!" interview is iconic. I suppose the reason why there's less of a "It's gonna cause mass shootings!" reaction to his movies now is that his movies end with the villains being violently dispatched, thus dispersing any notion that objectively evil people are being glorified and made sympathetic. That is what some people are pointing out as an issue with the Joker (which... well, without spoiling anything, I just have to ask what movie they were watching).

It's the double standard best exemplified in the American gun culture (which, again, clearly struck a nerve with this movie) - it's not guns that are bad, it's BAD guys with guns that are bad and GOOD guys with guns mowing down said bad guys is a-ok.

Film twitter tried to sabotage OUATIH with Bruce Lee brouhaha but it didn't catch on. OTOH, while Joker detractors managed to create media controversy, boxoffice proved critics-proof. The movie is an event around the world so controversy most likely added up to the hype.

It's unfortunate that Joker won't get a China release... Is that confirmed?

Definitely.

Venom would have made $587M without China, Joker should beat that. Of course Joker was always unlikely to get anywhere near $269M in China, but looking at overseas numbers it probably wouldn't have done as badly as I thought (maybe the usual $100M for superhero movies).
