Ad Astra was one of the most boring films I've seen this year and I saw Long Day's Journey into Night and The Souvenir. it's only making what it's making thanks to Brad Pitt.

Spoiler

it's not necessarily a bad film it's just not engaging enough to be a box office hit.

Spoiler

unless you have daddy issues

Next weekend will be interesting with how well Joker is doing. I currently have Maleficent at #1 with $37M (Zombieland will debut with around $20M or so for third place).

I thought tracking on Mal2 was soft? Could see them being neck and neck at $32-35m

I thought tracking was in the $40-50M range. Either way I think it's gonna land in the same range Lego Movie 2 did or thereabouts. Not great since it'll still be a big drop from the first, but not a total fiasco like Alice Through the Looking Glass was either.

I hope Zombieland surprises with a #1 debut

"Even with a $138M Ang Lee-directed Will Smith action film in the market, adult moviegoers are opting for Joker, the DC villain origins film they’ve never seen before, and much of that has to do with literally the Rotten Tomatoes score: Joker‘s 68% certified fresh to Paramount/Skydance Media’s Gemini Man‘s 26% Rotten. The aggregator site is literally telling people to shell out their $15-$20/ticket for one film over the other. "

Can't believe they're implying Joker's "meh" RT score is helping it or that people even care about it.

I really don't see it at all and will be surprised if it matches the first movie's $24M debut a decade ago. The belated/unwanted sequel curse is coming to claim another one it seems. This really should've arrived no later than 2011/2012 for its greatest chance of succeeding.

Deadline says 90m Once Upon A Time In Hollywood needs 400m to break even. But Gemini Man at 138m only needs 275m to break even.

Bizarre, $275M would take care of the production costs, but marketing didn't cost $0 and surely Will Smith takes participations?

Been very busy in the last weeks, hence ive posted nearly nothing.

But ive seen Joker yesterday. I had some very small problems with it, aber for Phoenix alone its one of the best films ive seen this year. I didnt think id like a Joker Performance as much as Ledger ever again, but Phoenix comes extremely, extremely close.

So very happy for Jokers success. And obviously its heading for a terriffic 2nd weekend hold.
