Because the film never looked very appealing.

It’s not an appealing movie. An ugly looking movie with no stars and part of a franchise people no longer care about. But Paramount still pushed it hard and heavily promoted Schwarzenegger and Hamilton reuniting

That's not an amazing expansion for Jojo Rabbit. Its PTA is only slightly better than DF's and DF is playing in 4086 theaters vs Jojo's 256

This time here shouldn't be a close battle.

An 80% Sat bump (compared to 68% last Sat) and 25% Sun drop will give MAL2 12.94, something Joker will get even if it fails to match last weekends Sat and Sun holds.

From Deadline

Quote

Paramount did a great job at mounting excitement for this film out of Comic-Con and Cinemacon, enough to put initial projections in the $40M range. In fact a recent hysterical ESPN hybrid trailer with NBA star (and new to LA) Kawhi Leonard, Schwarzenegger and Hamilton racked up 10M global views, I hear. However, Dark Fate was crushed by early breaking reviews which spoiled that a key character in the franchise meets their death, thus sending the mythology of the film franchise and its fans into tailspin. Male trolls erupted, concerned that their prized Arnie series would now be relegated to three female leads.

Says Hollywood social media org RelishMix about the online chatter, “Fans and action sci-fi moviegoers who have seen the film are up in arms about major changes to the film series’ plot lines.  It’s also worth observing that fans and moviegoers are all for strong female characters – when these characters are essential and interesting to the story. Like other recent remakes, spin-offs and reimaginings, casual moviegoers are confused and disinterested in taking a classic film and simply re-shooting it with women in the lead roles, which is the perception of some related to Dark Fate, and the reality to still others who have seen early screenings.”

It seems the industry itself is taking this element into consideration.

It's already in it's 3rd w/e in the most expensive markets.

It's not getting the 2-3 screens per theater T:DF is getting, nor the PLF screens.

It doesn't include previews and it will have a better internal multi.

Not very amazing but respectable number.

Parasite has better grossing so far. It is now in 463 theaters this week, wonder how will be their Friday number after adding 300+ theaters .

So I guess Salvation flopped because it got rid of its female lead to give us charisma vacuum Sam Worthington and Christian Bale giving us his worst performance. If people just wanted Terminator starring mostly men then how come the aforementioned Salvation and Genisys flopped?

Just because some reviews or articles spoil a movie, it doesn't mean you should spoil it in the weekend thread...

Although interesting - what's the last blockbuster budget movie Deadline literally completely spoiled after only 24 hours of release?

I mean, it's almost a hit job on their part...b/c fence sitters are going to stay home with the negativity from that article.

It still boggles my mind that they spent nearly $200M making this after the last three movies failed to turn much or any kind of profit. Between that and Dr. Dolittle movie that reportedly has a budget almost as high, studio executives really can't blame moviegoers for failing to put money in their pockets.
