2011 GeekFreek Awards

Welcome all to the 2011 Geekfreek Awards. I'm your host and FBO Madman Jajang. It was indeed a long and eventful year. From the highs of July where we all but broke the record for the entire month to the lows of when the game almost died and then we saw the end of our home of 5 years at BOM. This Awards Ceremony commemorates the year that was 2011.

What a year indeed. And so we review the first quarter of 2011....

Back in January 2011, we 8 active players (with a total of 12 playing at the time). As usual, January was dominated by holdovers from December with only a few real entries into the charts thanks to openings in January. Lobotomy would lead the first weekend of the year but it would be Alfred who dominate January thanks to holdovers. For the 2012 Game at the end of the month, Alfred would be leading the game from Townzy with Jajang rounding out the top 3. All of the top 3 would be driven by investments in The Green Hornet and The Dilemma. February would see wins from Lightygami and Radier Gummi before returning to Alfred yet again with further wins. The month of February once again belonged to Alfred, Radier jumped into 2^nd and Steenhart rounded out the top 3. Alfred took the month with investments in Unknown and Just go with it. Radier and Steenhart were driven by Justin Bieber mostly. Overall it was a weak month especially in comparison to the previous year. March saw no one really dominate. Radier, Billybobwashere, Boxofficeace and Smallville all had a go at the top. But even though he never even won a weekend, Alfred was able to take out the monthly honours for the 3^rd month straight. Billybobwashere and Steenhart rounded out the top 3. March was even weaker than February indicated some deep troubles with recent films at the box office. At the end of the first quarter we were well down year on year, though this was expected given the size of the holdovers last time around. It was always going to be a hard act to follow. Overall, Alfred was easily leading the game, with Radier in second and Steenhart rounding out the top 3.

ROI Award

The Return of Investment Award, awards those investors who select their investments carefully. In particular paying attention to the budgets so not to overspend. This year there are 3 nominations and they are:

[*]Luciarlando with a number of solid investments but in particularly the investment in Paranormal Activity 3 helped him.

Sorry, I've been MIA lately just busy with life. Wow, an honor for me to receive this award 2 years running, for 2012 I plan to make it not only 3 in a row, but also be in the running for the Geek Freak award with revenue producing movies as a balance. Thank you for this awesome game Jajang and keep on going!

No Worries Mattrek and congratulations on the win there. Though i must say given the competition this year it's gonna be a lot harder to get to the top of the game :)And now it's time to announce our first nominee in the Geekfreek Award. This player has been at the top or near to ever since he began back in 2007. He has always been a serious threat even when the chips were down. I am of course talking about our 2009 Game winner (of the Geekfreek award), once again in with a shot.Alfred!

Best Investor Award

The best investor award awards the player who spends their % most wisely throughout the year.

For the first time since the game's inception, this award has been won by someone else OTHER than Townzy!

Sadly Raider can't be here as he hasn't been around since BOM's forums shutdown. Congrats to Radier!

Onto Q2, 2011.....April finally saw some good returns. Mattrek took out the first 2 weekends with reasonable totals. Boxofficeace took the following 2 weekends and finally in the biggest weekend of the year to date, Radier nearly made 100m in a single weekend. Mattrek took the month out, with Lightygami right behind him. BoxofficeAce held down third. Lightygami led the first 2 weekends in May driven to the top by Thor. Boxoffice Took the weekend Pirates 4 opened. Radier Gummi Took the final weekend of the month and was the first player since Billybobwashere some 27 weeks earlier made more than 100m in a single weekend. Radier easily took out the biggest month of the year so far with over 360m for the month. Billybobwashere took out second and Townzy rounded out the top 3. In June, lightygami stamped his authority over the first 2 weekends, boxofficeace jumped to the top in the third, while Alfred finally returned to the winners circle in thefinal weekend. As a result, Alfred won the month with over 300m. Lightygami was just behind him in second, with Billybobwashere rounding out the top 3. This quarter finally saw a return to form of the boxoffice, with Aprils returns being some of the biggest ever for that month. Overall Radier Gummi had grabbed the lead for the game with now over 1 Billion from Alfred who was in second. Billybobwashere rounded out the top 3.

Our third award of the night is awarded to the player who makes the most sales in $ during the year.

Our 2nd nominee for the Geekfreek award, is also a perenial top 5 player. Was a threat all the way thru 2011. He also wont he game in 2007. He is also one of the few remaining players from our inaugural year 2006.Billybobwashere welcome once again to the top 5.....

The Company Value Award is very simply based upon how much money you have left in the bank at the end of the year. (ie. your bank account - .... this is how much your company is now worth - for those that don't get it .. this is not how much u earnt)

In what was a tight finish, Radier pipped Billybob for the win. As noted before Radier isn't here to accept the ceremony.. so we move on.

Q3:The second half of the year got off to a flyer with what was easily the biggest films of the year in Transformers and the final harry potter which opened mid month. Radier took the first weekend in July with another 100m weekend. In fact Radier would lead 4 out of the 5 weekends of the month of July including a 200m+ weekend when Harry opened. Lightygami finally tipped Radier off the top in the final weekend. Obviously, thanks his domination, Radier easily won the month with the biggest month ever on record with a total of 713m. Second fell to Billybobwashere with a still reasonable 433m. Mattrek held down third. In Fact the top 9 players all made in excess of 200m making July, 2011 one of the biggest all time months ever (June 2010 continues to hold that record with nearly 4B). August started strongly with Mattrek topped the charts for the first weekend before Townzy took over and dominated for the remainder of the month. Finally at the end of the month, Townzy had taken over 300m in first, Mattrek was on 190m in second and Jajang in third on 182m. September saw a substantial decline in the game after the highs of the summer. Townzy would lead all weeks bar the last 2 weekends which was led by Boxofficeace and mattrek. In fact the weekend boxofficeace led was the weakest weekend since inception of the game. Townzy was the only investor who managed to make more than 100m for the month. Lobotomy took out second with Boxofficeace in third. After starting off to a flyer this quarter, 2011 died off very dramatically culminating in the weakest weekend in the games history. Radier now easily led the game by some margin (400m) over Townzy with Alfred barely behind him in third.

Finally we are starting to get down to the business end of things!

The Weekend Award

Quite simply this awards who got the biggest weekend of the year.

2011, saw 5 weekends cross 150m (a new record) though the overally record remained intact from the previous year and is still owned by Alfred earning over 212m in a single weekend.

The winner for 2011 made just past 200m (only the second player to ever make more than 200m in a single weekend) and not surprisingly was driven by the record breaking opening by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. In fact the 2 highest weekends of 2011 came from that same weekend with the third highest coming from November (driven by Twilight).

Radier Gummi yet again.

Now we have 2 further nominees for the Geekfreek Award.First up we have Mattrek who snuck into contention near the middle of the year. He first joined us in 2009, but made no real tilt at topping the charts until 2011 when he finally got serious. As a result he is nominated here and is of course already a winner of one of the awards already handed out.Secondly we have Radier Gummi who sadly has left us. He has been one of strongest players this game has ever seen. He first joined us in 2007 and after a wobbly first year has been a serious contender of taking the game out every year after that. In fact some of his battles with Alfred and Townzy are now a thing of legend and myth. Our closest result ever was from 2010 when only a mere 100m seperated these 3 players at the end of the year with Townzy taking the revenue chart by a mere 200k from Radier (yes you read that right - after a years play the game was decided by only 200k with a third player less than 100m behind that ~ all over 2.5B earnt too) ~ i'm sure townzy could give us a story or about that battle ..... not knowing a winner for so long ... Radier hoping those pesky oscar bait films would push him over the line..... anyway.. he is one of the greats of the game and while he is up for this award he will be missed in this game....

We are now finally closing in on the pointy end of the ceremony and finally the closeout of the 2011 game.......

It's now time to talk about Revenue... yep, this is the award many consider to be game winner. The player who wins this is often considered to win the game although there is a seperate award for the overall win (geekfreek award)

This award looked to be locked and ready to be given to one certain player until BOM crashed... That single moment in the games history changed the trajectory of a number of a players and ultimately made a big change in who won this award (in fact this player i make mentioned was third overall.)

All of the top 5 players made in excess of 2B in 2011, even with the lack of investment after August.

In the end the results ended as follows:

3rd place went to Radier Gummi who as i mentioned above was leading the game very convincingly in October prior to the demise of BOM. As noted Radier did return to the game and there did no invest in any films after this time. The fact he held onto 3rd is tantamount to how much he led by at the time.

2nd belonged to Alfred he caught and passed Radier in early 2012.

Our winner played a very smart game at the end of the year investing in the right films and frankly just running away it even though he was running third at the time of the crash.

Townzy89 you are the Revenue winner....
