Black Widow Overseas Thread.

It can be argued that TENET released in better market condition than Black Widow minus USA and LATAM.

Europe did great numbers. Taiwan, SEA were open. Even Canada was in better condition. Korea same story as BW, with market being robust prior to both film's release, and new COVID wave hitting in weekend films released.

Should have released in May 2021, without PA. @TigerPaw

Also Tenet did pretty okay in China; while piracy of BW is already out now before a release date is confirmed…

I knew the May date was better and I said it a lot of times in this forum; at least in terms of gross on a worldwide basis…

I think target is 500 first; China is really a big IF.

1)When (or whether) will it be released

2) Whether there will be much competition on the date

3) How many people waited to watch it in theaters (or willing to rewatch after watching a pirated copy)

To be fair - point 2 is key; if it was released in a date where this isn't much competition for 2 weeks or so, people who are bored may (re)watch it.

Estimated gross from other countries will be clearer when the first weekend figure comes out.

$500M shall be done, unless Covid has another wave in more markets.

Don't think China will do much. Delayed release in SEA will be waste mostly. So $600m is tough. May be Disney should just not release it in China. But even dead MCU film in China will do $50-60M, so I guess can do it for bragging rights.

To be fair; $530m excluding China sounds better than $580m including China - if you get what I mean. Haha.

For example Sucide Squad grossed over $700m excluding China; and then there are always people who say it could have done close to a billion if it was released in China. 😅 or Joker did a billion without China.. it sounds impressive.

A potential always sounds better than a reality that is disapponting. (I.e - BW gross over $500m excluding China. Wow. 🤣)

ant man and the wasp had 160 mill ww opening without china and then went on to make 500 mill without china , that was 3,12 in terms of legs , if black widow has the same legs but with 180-200 ww opening sans china and antman 2 legs then we are looking at 560-620 mill without china, so lets see  it will be fun to watch thats for sure

For what is worth, it has 94% Audience Score on RT from over 1000 verified ratings atm. They are all internationals so at least early foreign audience loves it. WOM should be great. :)

Pretty sure the RT verified score is from USA Thursday previews.

Don't pay attention to these internet ratings for MCU and other fanbase properties.

Nah RT verified tends to track pretty well with Cinemascore actually. Much more reliable than your average online rating.

I still think July was better:

-USA is stronger than in May

-Europe reopened their theaters and there are no gauges anymore

I don't know what happened to China but even if China's numbers would be bigger or as big as European numbers it's important to remind you that Disney gets a much higher share of the box office in Europe than in China so I'm pretty sure it's a win for them.

I think this BW first week is very satisfying so far given the conditions & circumstances.

You do note that I kept saying worldwide gross right… Not box office profit.
