Weekend Thread: Actuals - Jumanji 2 $59.25M | Frozen 2 $19.07M | Knives Out $9.14M | Richard Jewell $4.68M | Black Christmas $4.24M

I know Jumanji WTTJ opened very modestly, deep in a Star Wars shadow, then sprouted legs of thousand-year-old Oak to truck its way to $400m DOM, so maybe lightning will strike twice.

But ... does anyone else think that a $4.7m Thursday and a projected $55m opening weekend is kind of on the low side for the sequel to a movie that did $400m DOM?

Check the tracking and movie specific thread 😂

Its been discussed a bunch.

Its just fine and in keeping with normal performance for family films that arent animated or comic books. Its also wayyyyyy better than most reputable tracking sites had it pegged for.

Also insert #400mcurse very few sequels to "original" 400m films increase or keep significant attendance. Catching Fire and Frozen 2 are the only ones in recent years to buck it. So again, its behaving just fine.

Birds of Prey - sounds about right, if not a little overpredicted. I'm expecting 120m DOM

I could see that. Offshoot sequel to a movie nobody really cared about. With a character nobody is wanting to see again.
