I'm waiting for the live-action Frozen announcement. :ohmygod:

A live-action Frozen could probably gross over $2 billion if enough time passes by and nostalgia builds up.

Then again, Disney is just burning through their animated classics right now.

I mean 4 remakes in the same year? With 2 of those being the 2 biggest movies of the renessaince era?

wouldn’t be shocked if Disney releases a live-action Frozen in the next ~5 years tbh.

Definitive Star Wars Saga Ranking for me:

1. Empire - Masterpiece
2. A New Hope - Classic
3. The Last Jedi - It just works for me except Canto Bight fuck Canto Bight

4. TFA - Pure Entertainment except Starkiller Base gets lamer with every rewatch
5. Return of the Jedi - 1st act is mediocre, 2nd act is kinda dull, 3rd act is amazing
6. The Rise of Skywalker - LMAO
7. Revenge of the Sith - LMAO
8. The Phantom Menace - Boring
9. Attack of the Clones - Barely a movie

The EXACT same ranking as me.

Two years ago there were seven of us who walked into a first weekend showing of The Last Jedi. A few days ago one of those seven messages four others (two of the group had fallen off due to breakups and such) to ask if we wanted to catch a midnight showing of The Rise of Skywalker. Everyone said no. Two (one of them me) said TLJ had soured them on Star Wars and they weren’t interested in seeing TROS at all. One said TLJ had soured him too but The Mandalorian has brought him back around to willing to give TROS a chance, but he was busy with Christmas stuff at least until next weekend. As far as I know no one in our group has seen the film yet. And this is a mix of die-hard fans and pretty casual viewers.

Saying that TLJ didn’t dampen enthusiasm for more Star Wars seems obviously untrue to me. Maybe the film itself is crap, but I think reaction to TLJ would be having a bigger effect now than reviews or word of mouth (which will become more important as time goes by).

Looks great. Had ended up 445 by Jan 3-5 weekend after 179 ow, close to your 460.

After a 36 Jan 3-5 weekend you have added 30 more to rest of the run. Feel the Jan 7th Tue is too low. Even in 2013/14 (same calendar as 19/20) the Tues went up even without discounts. https://www.the-numbers.com/box-office-chart/daily/2014/01/07

Thinking it will add at least 1.5x Jan 3-5 weekend. Hobbit2 added ~2x in 13/14.

A $175M opening likely means around a RO finish. Also, it's likely to fall below RO WW. Think about this. The finale of what was once considered the biggest film franchise is likely to finish under a billion.

But the finale to what we thought was the end twice before never got close to being the biggest film(s) ever.  Expectations are kind of moronic here. Just way too much hyperbole that’s unrealistic.

Yeah, January 2020 has a lot of competition compared to January 2018, as there was literally nothing for The Last Jedi until Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed, which were both in February 2018. However:

January 2020

The Grudge

Like a Boss

Dolittle

Bad Boys for Life

Gretel & Hansel

Enjoyed it much more the second time. My theater lapped it up.

Clearly I’m wrong based on the doom-sayers crushing the rest of us, choosing to look at box office as to how good the film is.

There are plenty of us that had a great time with it.

You know I’m speaking the truth when I say there’s a few here on BOT that if the movie had made $40 million or so more this weekend would have declared they liked it. That’s how fickle some are.  Never change BOT

Nah, they need to make Frozen 3 first (I have no doubts they will). Then wait 15-20 years for the live-action version for maximum effect. So probably during the 2040s.

Until then fingers crossed for live-action Finding Nemo and Incredibles. 😂

I haven't had a chance to see TROS yet but since everybody seems to be doing their rankings, here's mine

Empire strikes back

Return of the Jedi

The Force Awakens

Revenge of the Sith

A new hope

Rogue one

The last Jedi

Solo

The phantom menace

Attack of the clones

The only one I never cared much for is AOTC.

I think all movies feel better when viewed a second time, as you have already expected the flaws.

Agree to a certain point, but I think for a franchise like Star Wars, you do have to keep fans in mind to some degree.

No, you ignore the fans and make the Star Wars movie you want to make.  If they hate it, let them learn their life doesn’t end because didn’t like what somebody did with a Star Wars movie

The Star Wars franchise needs a break. But it’s not dead. With the right creative minds, it can still continue and make money (without decreasing). Come up with new characters and new ideas. Star Wars is a whole damn galaxy. They don’t have to confine it’s stories to just a few set characters.

I also feel like when they cast for the newer projects, they need to get actors/actresses who are charismatic and can be the face of a franchise. I’m sorry but Daisy Ridley and John Boyega are not that.

So with the right creative mind and right cast, Star Wars will be fine. Honestly if I’m Disney, I let Kevin Feige take over the Star Wars franchise. Or at least be a consultant. He seems to have a knack of getting the right cast and the right people behind the scenes.
