which would be excellent.
Considering the carnage of Wednesday when the mixed reviews came out - this kind of number is real good. Then we’ll see how WOM goes.

Anything below a 2 is not excellent whatsoever. This is the finale of a 40 year saga, nothing excuses this performing less then the previous 2 movies in the trilogy.

In Star Wars the third movie always performs better then the 2nd. This breaks that cycle, it's not good. No matter how you look at it.

The weekend of January 3rd to 5th will have an inflated Friday though.
With NY Day on a Wednesday, many people will take Thu/Fri off, especially since most kids are still out of school those days.

I imagine this will blunt whatever drop it has.

The real test will be after that weekend...

TLJ (and this will probably) barely made any money after New Year weekend, this Sunday and second week is much more important

Disagree with me all you want id consider a 180M OW with the Holidays ahead a win. Remember TLJ may have opened with 40M more in that case but it also had brutal drops in its following run.

Quote

Out of the gate, Skywalker is a win for audiences with Thursday night Comscore/Screen Engine PostTrak polls showing 4 1/2 stars and a 76% definite recommend with parents and kids under 12, who showed up at 16% combined, giving the J.J. Abrams directed finale five stars. General audiences repped 89% of the crowd.

Again, TLJ opened a week earlier, so if had already been playing an extra week in theaters after New Year.
It's not an apples to apples comparison, people have to stop treating it like it is....

People here trying to convince us that the final SW movie doing similar (or even lower) numbers than TLJ is a good thing, despite these same persons spending the past year claiming that it was LOCKED to increase because it always happened in this franchise is the most hilarious thing.

That released a week earlier and christmas eve fell on the 2nd weekend resulting in big 2nd weekend drop. This is different release cycle.

Sounds like it's a lost cause in China. Might even be better off not releasing it there. $20M total when other films are racking up well over $100M totals. Kinda embarrassing.

Still better than Joker doing 0 here in China

You can't have a true Friday number yet. It's 10:30 a.m. on the east coast and 7:30 a.m. on the West coast. Sorry buddy we all love you here but that's a hell of a lot of extrapolating and filling in a lot of missing blanks.

Seems you do not understand how this film was marketed and the history of the franchise at the box office. Anything below a 2 is not good at all. Disney will likely be massively disappointed. There's no reason this film should open below the first two films unless the "minority fandom menace" actually do have a pull and say in what they're saying.

It will gross more than TLJ though imo, and thats the most important thing.
