Ok I've seen your numbers been shared on Reddit (specifically, those showing TFA doing only $840m in the US) and after done fast research and I'm pretty much certain that your Canadian numbers (specifically the currency) are off. I'll repost my post from reddit (with relevant sources):

I think we've had this argument on BOT already, but I reiterate, your US numbers are off. You seem to have the Canadian and US dollar mixed up.

For example, TFA didn't do US$97m as your graph is implying (that would have been a ridiculous overperformance). It did C$91.9m(source).

I've cross-checked the source against one of the mainstream trades to verify its accuracy and it seems to hold up. This Hollywood Reporter article has it grossing C$58.1m in 2015 calendar year which when added to the C$33.8m 2016 calendar gross from above gives us the same total gross.

Using the exchange rate from that HR article, the US$ gross for the entire run of TFA in Canada would be $65m and so the US only number is US$872m. I assume you've made the same mistake for the Endgame and NWH (I haven't checked however).

TBH I myself is trying to solve this matter. Numbers I have pulled are from comScore. As far as I remember TFA USA gross is ~$840M + CAN ~$95M to make it $936M. Don't think they will be adding US$ with CAN$.

Actually I was once told that this is in fact the case that CAN$ is directly added to US$, which I honestly didn't believe. I asked RTH about it few years back, he also said its US$. Unfortunately I don't have direct access at the moment, so I can't check in detail.

I am adding the top grossers list, same I have posted in first page.

Spoiler

Rank Title Date Cume
1 Avatar 12/18/2009 96,114,000
2 Star Wars: The Force Awakens 12/18/2015 94,344,776
3 Avengers: Endgame 04/26/2019 82,535,750
4 Star Wars: The Last Jedi 12/15/2017 61,979,312
5 Avengers: Infinity War 04/27/2018 61,706,989
6 Marvel's The Avengers 5/4/2012 59,496,090
7 Black Panther 02/16/2018 57,992,028
8 Jurassic World 6/12/2015 57,364,735
9 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 12/16/2016 55,305,767
10 Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King 12/17/2003 52,942,730
11 The Dark Knight 07/18/2008 52,301,368
12 The Lion King 07/19/2019 51,348,605
13 Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers 12/18/2002 48,586,925
14 Beauty And The Beast 03/17/2017 47,568,769
15 The Dark Knight Rises 07/20/2012 46,771,628

My only/biggest rationale for my number being US$ is because there are many late 2000s and early 2000s film in the list due to better exchange rate. Like The Avengers is almost same as IW, despite US gross being 10% higher. or Avatar bigger than TFA

Since you shared that THR report of yearly box office @Agafin. They seem to be taking the gross they have as CA$ and adjusting in US$.

Quote

Lifted by Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Jurassic World, Canada's box office earned CAN $988 million (U. S.$699.3 million) in 2015, up 4.5 percent from a disappointing previous-year $945.8 million, but short of the 2012 box office record of $1.094 billion.

I am like 99% sure that, the Canada number of $1.02B is US$ because that's what gonna make yearly BO $11.3B. Otherwise, if this is CA$, yearly BO should be around $11B for 2019. This is the number I pulled from comScore back in 2019.

All Canada only numbers.

Okay so noting the "as of date" Im assuming that's total take for each film in Canada, and not just opening Friday.

And those percentages are percentage compared to US.

Sorry just trying to understand lol

Spider-man: No Way Home

Week 1 - $27.6M (Quebec missing since MON)

Week 2 - $9.7M

Week 3 - $5M (Ontario missing since WED)

Week 4 - $1.5M

Week 5 - $1M

Week 6 - $0.79M

7th Weekend - $0.51M

Total - $46.2M

Ontario reopen today. Will be interesting how it do. It has probably missed $5M in last 26 days. How much of that it will be able to recover, will see. Quebec reopen next week.

Underindexing performance in Canada. One would usually expect Canada to do $75-80M approx. with sort of numbers USA is doing. It has missed on $9M+ till date due to cinema closure in two states for a real value of $55M+, but that's not enough. Even with that it would be ending around $60M, roughly $15-20M short of what it should ideally be doing.

Canadians back in Dec were very scared of covid

Like if this released now it likely  done 70+ million with ease.

Yeah total for those films till 4th November.

Thank you. Im seeing these big numbers like the No Way Home by week and thinking "that didn't make 27 million OD in Canada did it???" but okay it made it that week, that makes more sense to me.

Thor4

SW/Toronto Ontario T-14

thor4 # theatre #show Seats Sold Seats Rem Ttl seat Percent

Fri 20 278 3590 36339 39929 0.0899

Dont really have OD comps. Even if I wanted to do Lightyear or Minions (prolly not applicable ones) I don't have a t-14 for Lightyear and Minions obviously doesn't have a OD yet.

EDIT: Just for clarification of what my "SW Ontario" is, its London (x2), Sarnia, Chatham, Windsor, St Thomas, Kitchener, Brantford, Cambridge and Waterloo.

Thanks again for this thread. Hoping to regularly post SW/Toronto Ontario updates. Right now Im mainly following the Minions and Thor4. I only have so many hours in the day unfortunately. Im probably going to do a daily count at the t-14 (ish) mark. Im not following NOPE right now (you could saying im NOPING NOPE) until it gets to 2 weeks before, and some ive just outright missed like Elvis and Black Phone. So cant guarantee every film, but will try my best to do what I can.
