my scrapper is too slow but if I have to project from numbers earlier BB 16m and Dolittle about 1/3rd of that. This is all pure friday.

Wow. I know a lot of people loved the first two films but in had no idea they wanted a 3rd home this bad. Bad Boys 2 must have had a cult following on DVD.

Bad Boys II seems like a movie that everyone has either owned or watched on cable/streaming at some point.  It had great WOM.

Bad Boys breaking out huge. I still dont have final numbers yet(my scrapper is very slow) but walk ins are excellent. At Empire even late shows are almost sold out. 

 

I am curious how oscar nominees are doing including 1917. Early numbers for holdovers are not relevant. 

 

 

It will hurt RDJ's star power in near future. Like what Bush said:  "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.”

 

"Skyscraper" opening also shows that Dwayne Johnson has star power.  Still, Universal went on to drop Dwayne Johnson's "Red Notice".

I noticed ads for BB3 on my Facebook newsfeed. They were pretty funny clips.

 

I think this marketing approach worked. Though I can't be 100% certain it was the Facebook marketing push.

With BB3 doing gang busters and September and October having movies like IT and Joker it seems like there's no bad month to release a movie.

"American Sniper" holds the record (92 3-day/110 4-day).   But it was technically released the previous year limited and went Wide on MLK Weekend.  Bad Boys III will have the highest opening for a film released on MLK Weekend if some of these early numbers hold up.  I think "Ride Along" did 48 4-day.

Yup. Five years later, I still can't believe how massive that movie was in its first two weeks of wide release. Definitely a case of audience interest, awards buzz, and an exceptionally strong ad campaign forming a perfect storm. I thought for sure it would take down The Passion as the top R-rated domestic grosser up until it had a huge (but understandable) drop over Super Bowl weekend the following frame.

2nd weekend drop for American sniper was almost as amazing as ow, 89.3 to 64.6, less than a 30% drop despite opening on a holiday weekend.

Great opening for Bad Boys. There is zero competition until Birds of Prey so this has loads of room to breath.
