Can´t wait for November and this to beat Vol 3 and be the biggest MCU movie this year. Many will have to eat their words. The hyperbole has become a joke. People saying it won´t gross 400M even. Anyhow hope they make a good trailer on Tuesday

People expecting half billion plus drops based on literally nothing but their personal opinions of other MCU films is insane. Black Panthers main lead straight up died between films right before filming was supposed to happen and that still didn't drop as much as people are assuming this will.

Box office wise, Captain Marvel has been in the latter camp, not the former.

She temporarily was in the latter camp for a period of 1 year because of the Infinity War post-credit scene, but after Endgame, her status in the MCU is unknown.

Yep, the excuses some use for its gross will never not be funny.

Let's see how GotG3 does, it would be very reflective for this one.

Why wouldn't it have a massive drop from the first one, it has nothing going for it and domestic market would have to do some really heavy lifitng.

No idea what people assumed, but 1.35 bln => 859 mln is not a pretty drop to say the least.

I think if this is good it can make like 750-850m, if it’s received like some of the lower level marvel movies the last few years then it can go as low as like 600m. I also don’t see like 400m happening and don’t see it getting anywhere near the first movie but that would be pretty impressive if it did. I think volume 3 will be good and be well received so that should help that this comes after that.

For one, literally not a single frame of footage has been released. People are basing this assumption on literally nothing.

Do people really think a three second shot of her logo is really the reason the movie made a billion dollars. This is like saying Guardians 1 was only well successful because Thanos had a cameo in Avengers 1

The setting up of CM in Infinity War and being released a month before Endgame was definitely a huge factor. No use denying it

But that doesn´t mean that´s the only reason the movie was successful. A movie doesn´t get to 1,1B just from that.

In the case of captain marvel the release schedule of the movie is the reason the  movie made what it made. It’s not touching 1.1b if it isn’t released between IW and EG and she isn’t teased in there. Doesn’t mean the movie is bad or you shouldn’t enjoy it or that this movie can’t make money though.

why not? It was basically Marvel mania at that time. Which is definitely not the case now.

By that logic Ant-Man and the Wasp would have benefited more since it came out even closer to Infinity War. It just doesn't track that a 3 second logo shot affected box office that much.

Well, we do have something, we have initial variables which we can use to make first assumptions.

Maybe also curiosity factor for a new character, but that's about it.

The World Cup boss. The World Cup is why Ant-Man and the Wasp had some issues cashing in. Release dates were all over the place because Disney were (reasonably) terrified of releasing a movie in Europe and South America in the middle of football mania but wanted to keep their North American date intact.

I think Captain Marvel is a hugely underrated movie, it is a Top Tier MCU for me and i think it's a much better watch for non-regular fans than the hardcore crowd want to give it credit for.

At the same time I think it benefitted from possibly the most convenient release timing any movie has gotten, just about. Ant Man and Far From Home came in come-down periods following massive films, but CM came out in the perfect ramping-up sweet spot, plus big marketing, plus IWD. It wasn't the logo, it was the general MCU mania, the moment of cultural zeitgeist.

It's fine to acknowledge that and still think it had an amazing run, just as it's fine to think Avatar 2 is an incredible all-time BO accomplishent that still had a minor assist from other studios being terrified of it and/or having a lacklustre season.

I am in the 800 if it's good, 620 if its weaker camp. And that would be something I'd consider a decent success in the current climate.

Considering even GOTG3 is struggling on presales despite 2 beloved movies and apparently will depend of great reviews to have a shot in not embarrassing itself, Marvel really need to step up their marketing game for this one, the trailer must be great as insiders are saying

MCU is already in trouble, the first movie is well received but nothing spectacular, they need to get it right to avoid a huge flop

I´m really hoping everything will turn out fine, i´m rooting for Nia and Brie

Comps of trailer views of other movies, christ people are ludicrously negative on this movie. Again, not a single frame of footage and people are already calling it a bomb. Get it together.

Dude, this literally happens to DC movies and a lot of other tentpoles too. It’s not just Marvel.

Marvel just had a tremendous bomb on their hands with Quantumania and a stablished franchise like GOTG is having awful presales, idk why you´re so shocked that people are questioning the potential of this one when MCU as a whole is showing strong signs of disconection with the audience because of many poorly received movies and TV shows for 3 years in a row

Yeah people get way ahead of themselves proclaiming things without being sure, but when the franchise is build as a whole is expected that a few ´´episodes´´ can impact other ones in a negative way, it´s just obvious tbh
