Yep NJ shut down casinos, gyms and movie theaters.  I think I saw a curfew at 8 pm too but that may not be true yet or at all.  May have been a misleading headline

Also restaurants are closed except for take out and delivery

Has to be done. Tri-state area has to be on the same page otherwise just shutting down NYC is pointless. Glad they finally coordinated.

Yup. It was a coordinated effort between all three states. The governor of CT called out the federal government for “falling asleep at the switch.”

This virus has so far defied national borders. Now we are talking putting borders within a country to seal off affected areas. Borders around neighborhoods and ones' homes make more sense now.

Grocery panic buying is even worse.

I made sure to stock up because I have a family. Don't want all these people buying absolutely everything before I had a chance to. I don't think panic buying will end anytime soon

Well the issue is flattening the curve also means reducing further chains of infections.

Be honest closing the borders to enter most European countries is pointless now but for other countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand makes sense.

Maryland and Michigan join tri-state and WA with statewide theater closure.

Cali, IL, FL, OH, by end of day imo. 3 of those states are still planning a primary tomorrow 🤦‍♂️

Anybody else watch the movie Contagion recently? Got the free trial of cinemax just to watch it. Pretty crazy stuff with what's going on in the world

Good thing I already voted on Saturday (though I always do early voting to beat the crowds anyway).

Was just forwarded this by my father (who is the smartest person I know - valedictorian, Top of his class in college, PhD in Paper Chemistry).

He is also conservative (a true conservative, not a Trump right-wing populist), religious, but a very science based individual (was head of an R&D lab before he retired).

He's emailed me a number of good articles and emails the last couple of weeks.

This is a good one from a group of doctors on the pandemic and what we need to be doing

Also, good early look at the economic downtourn COVID-19 has had in China so far (and these numbers underreport how bad it will get as they are only through Feb.) China is starting to allow people back to work but only under severe restrictions that are designed to prevent a second wave from happening.

This is what the Western world will be facing economically within a couple of months.

I watched it again the other week before everything officially got out of control. Another fitting movie to watch at a time like this is 1995's Outbreak, although that's much more of a typical action movie instead of a serious drama like Contagion is.

Thankfully US added UK to its travel restrictions/ban.

Trudeau is about to address the nation. This is crazy, I feel like this is going to be a moment that I'm going to remember to tell my kids about. I've been on the fence about Trudeau on many things, but this announcement is really going to be a kind of deal-breaker on my opinion of his government. I have faith he'll do something about this, but let's see. I think there's also supposed to be a provincial update on # of cases today.
