It made 4.6m last weekend. Low 3m would be like -35% and bring it to around 98-99m. I’ll take it. Will pass 100m next week

Yup, it has looked like 100m on Oscar weekend for awhile. Its playing fine for its film type.

Better than I assumed based on convo here.... would be interesting if G&H manages to not get an F as well.

It got a C-. So we can now reset the months of no F score back to zero after going 28 months without any at all let alone two lol.

Sexy female assassins (or lingerie assassin as one tweet called it) are played out. It's time to go back to smart and tough female heroines like Ripley or Sarah Connor who aren't about being hot. James Cameron was right when he said Wonder Woman wasn't doing anything new - it's another hot girl kicking ass in a skimpy outfit.

Rhythm Section she wasn’t actually wearing any skimpy or even tight clothes. She also had short hair and no make up.

Ripley and Sarah were quite butch. But they resonate more with Male viewers. Female audiences responded to Wonder Woman.

DF had butch women and it flopped. CA had sexy women and it flopped. When a movie looks like a skip, it is skipped no matter what type of actor or actress they cast. WW looked great and people flocked to see it. Is Cameron losing his touch with masses considering he produced DF and Alita but slammed WW?

I think he offered fair criticism. It didn't seem like he was slamming WW so much as slamming the idea of a strong sexualised female lead kicking ass as 'groundbreaking'. That being said, the idea that WW needed to be groundbreaking to earn praise instead of being the female counter-part it was may have some hint of sexist undertones. Its not like they'd hire a Steve Buscemi to play Superman.

I dont think Cameron has lost touch just yet, there's a lot of Avatar fans out there

these day anything is "groundbreaking". the word is thrown around like candy so its value diminished. That said, movies thrive on sexualization. MCU doesn't feature gratuitous shirtless scenes with Cap, Thor, Ant Man, BP, Spidey, etc for nothing. People love eye candy. Cameron's G-string-clad Na'vi are sexy too so that's that.

3rd Update Friday PM: Sony’s third weekend of Bad Boys for Life will easily defeat both new wide entries, Orion/UAR’s Gretel & Hansel and Paramount/IM Global/Eon’s The Rhythm Section, with an estimated $17.7M, -48%. Not only that but holdovers such as Universal/Amblin’s 1917 and Uni’s Dr. Dolittle are also whipping the new competition in the second and third spots with $9.8M and $8.2M, respectively.

Last year repped the lowest Super Bowl weekend in 19 years at the box office with $75M, after 2000’s $66.3M weekend. This year’s Super Bowl weekend looks to be up 9% with $81.4M per our estimates. 2008 remains the banner B.O. year as far as Super Bowl weekend goes with $128M propelled by Miley Cyrus Hannah Montana concert movie, which at $31M, remains the top opener for the frame. On the downside, grosses are so low this weekend, that it’s a close race between spots 4 through 6 and spots 8 & 9.

Right now, Orion/UAR’s  Gretel & Hansel is in 4th with $6.1M over three days while Blake Lively’s The Rhythm Section is tied for 8th with Little Women (in weekend 6) with $3.1M. As several execs have griped to me: You can’t beat the Rotten Tomatoes scores on either wide entry (56% and 30% Rotten, respectively). For all the hell we give to STX, they at least opened Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen to a good $10.65M last weekend, higher than what these studios are opening their movies to. Not to mention, Gentlemen is having a good hold of -44% in weekend 2 with $5.9M.

Among notable specialty releases, there’s Bleecker Street’s Harvey Weinstein inspired drama The AssistantThe pic made its world premiere at Telluride and played Sundance last weekend. On four NY and LA screens, the pic did $18K on Friday night, and looks to make $63K for the weekend or $15,6K per screen off an 84% Certified Fresh score.
