What's with all these random and ignorant attacks on Detective Pikachu? It broke the record for a video game adaptation and made more than anyone could have realistically hoped. Sonic is benefiting from the VG movie craze that Pikachu started (that is why the wisest box office watchers saw this explosion coming).

its still a few millions off, its at 433m, while Warcraft is at 439m.

2019 Detective Pikachu started the video game craze? There's been tons of video game movies before and hell in 2018 Rampage a property who doesn't even touch the popularity of Pokemon this generation made damn near the same amount and wasn't you guys and damn near half the media saying how Detective Pikachu was gonna be a billion

edit: Oh yeah I forgot about Warcraft

Pikachu did decently (unrealistic expectations prior notwithstanding) but it takes more than one movie for there to be a "video game movie crazy".

Sonic: 21.5

Photograph: 6.3

Birds of Prey: 6.3

Fantasy Island: 5.4

Bad Boys: 4

1917: 2.45

Downhill: 2.1

Jumanji: 1.8

Parasite: 1.75

Dolittle: 1.6

Wow, so that article pegging Parasite at 9 million for the 4 day wasn’t actually that far off.

With 1.75, 7-8 million is doable.
Crazy considering that it’s already out on home video.

Yeh Deadline are way underestimating BOP’s 4 day (18m) with that Friday. $20m 4 day is still doable.

3 day sub 50% drop, 4 day sub 40% drop.

Solid for Fantasy Island, horror needed a $10m+ opener. And it’s budget was $7m. Will make a quick $25-30m and be profitable in ancillaries.

If that was true then Cats shouldn’t have bombed...

What kind of furry would want to fuck a James Corden cat?

Birds Of Prey had hyenas tho.

If it had Margot Robbie dressed up as hyena, we would be seeing some Joker numbers.

Because while the billion dollar predictions were silly 750m was possible if they didn't screw up. Keeping their slot the week after End Game was so stupid. They knew Infinity War did over 2B and at worst it would equal that. It underperformed by 150m in Asia and 300m WW from an optimal performance. I think 850 was peak. It did barely half that.

And you expected $450M worldwide for Jumanji3, does it mean that it is now the hit of the century? Pikachu did better than any video game movie ever in the US, so it is extremely strange to try and make it look like a failure just because Sonic is doing amazing. This level of analysis is why the Franchise War should still be open, because that is where it belongs.

Yesterday was Valentines Day. Movies will decrease today

Last time VD was on a Friday. Family films seemed to increase.

Photograph and Fantasy Island are gonna drop big. Think everything else may either dip or increase slightly.

For some yes, but that certainly isn't true for all movies.

In 2014 when Valentine's Day also fell on a Friday, here were the Saturday holds. It's a mixed bag;

Lego Movie +58%

Robocop +21%

About Last Night -38%

Monuments Men +20%

Endless Love -52%

Frozen +42%

The obvious date movies decreased, but even Robocop which was in it's first weekend increased from Valentine's Day.

And family films clearly were not as effected.
