The Banshees of Inisherin | October 21, 2022 | Martin McDonagh Drama | Searchlight

Recommended Posts

The Banshees of Inisherin weirdly feels more like McDonagh's plays like The Cripple of Inishmann rather than Three Billboards or Seven Psychopaths.

I assume McDonagh's doesn't like adapting his own work but it'd be great to see Hangmen as a film.

I am just here for the scenery point and crazy vibes. But mostly scenery porn. I loooooved the Aran Islands.

I think with Martin McDonagh, you either love his style of writing and bleak humour or you don't, there's no middle ground.

His plays are worth checking out, I'm hoping The Pillowman revival which was to star Aaron Taylor Johnson happens as it was postponed due to Covid and cast availability.

Looks great, can't wait.

I'm sure it's still in that ballpark of $15m budget like his other movies but I wonder if it could be lower, around $10m.

Would love for this to be a decent success, but I feel like all 3 of his other movies had better and more accessible hooks. This looks mayhe too off-kilter

I was halfway through this at a showing yesterday when someone in the row behind me tried to recreate the opening of He Knows You're Alone with someone who had apparently slept with his girlfriend.

I was really into the movie before having to leave to provide a police statement.

Breaking News Alert

Regal Cinemas shows video advertisements for movie music albums on the TVs in their lobbies, and guess what? Banshees of Inisherin is already advertising its album on the Regal Cinemas lobby television. We’re moving on up in the world!

Brilliant. Moments of whimsy as seen in the trailer, but at its core this is a film about grief on a cosmic scale. McDonagh's best and my # 1 film of 2022. You can count on one hand the number of categories this won't get nominated for.

5/5

10/10, A masterpiece and masterclass in cinematic minimalism. I still favor EEAAO for awards season (in an ideal world, Banshees takes original screenplay and editing, EEAAO takes directing & best picture) , and while it's objectively more cohesive than Seven Psychopaths, that's still my favorite McDonagh film.

My Mum and her sisters (55-65) went to see this today and said it’s the worst film they’ve ever seen lol.

At least it wasn’t my recommendation (I’ve still to see it).

This Oscar season is so mixed. I tried watching Everything Everywhere all at Once and i had to stop it after like 40min. I don't get the Oscar buzz for Michelle Yeoh and for the movie. Maybe it just wasn't for me.  The Banshees looks to be more accessible, we'll see how it goes

So this is coming out on FUCKING BLU RAY on December 20... I legitimately thought they'd hold off on PVOD until that date at earliest.

This is insane man. It'll have been playing only Semi-wide for like 40 days before it comes out on Bluray and will only have opened in like 2 locations (the 2 it's playing in right now).

Make this make sense to me. This movie is doing pretty well. Having nice drops in the locations it's playing in. What is the rationale here? Let these movies fucking play!

No surprise since 7 wide releases over the next three weeks + the money it's making now being low enough means that it's destined to be among the many cuts theaters will be forced to make to accommodate all the new releases. I still want to see this, but haven't had the time these past few weeks and it'll likely be gone soon so I'll have to wait until streaming in a month at this point.
