The Coronavirus hysteria is obviously effecting a wide ranging amount of markets, especially in the entertainment and service industries.  And this will only progress as cases grow.  
 

I’m not trying to defend the movie or anything, I don’t care about it.  But the obvious should be re-instated.  Of course the virus is going to effect the amount of people who want to go sit in a congested space for 2 hours (especially among family demos).  Of course if people are worried if they’ll be able to have a job for the next few months they’ll skip on the movies.  Of course if cities and areas are suggesting procedures to minimize large group events and festivals/conferences are being cancelled, people will skip on the movies.

 

These are all emerging factors as well, so expect the effects on the BO and all markets to get worse before they get better.

About Coronavirus and Onward... Onward is also underperforming in South America which is among the regions less affected. The release date is bad but it is opening below Boss Baby in the countries where Boss Baby had a relatively similar date.

I mean you can say “I doubt” and whatnot, but service and entertainment industries (even in cities like Dallas where there are no cases yet) are already starting to see dips.

 

It is true that it’ll be pretty hard to quantify magnitude of the effect COVID is having right now, especially since the worried will likely just grow, but that doesn’t mean it’s not present or small

After that Artemis Fowl will flop. 

 

Disney's Trifecta of flops.

Yeah I don’t think the virus really has anything to do with Onward’s performance it just didn’t look that appealing from the trailers especially with the rather unappealing character designs

Very true! Passengers just eek $100 million and Mag 7 did $93 million. So it’s rough considering that those also had two big names helming each film(Jlaw and Denzel).

Looking at the fairly standard drops for February’s lineup, I’d agree that Coronavirus hasn’t had an impact at the box office yet. Still a ways to go until Mulan arrives...
