Bond Weekend Thread | NM 42.3, NTTD 40.1

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I know that being stuck in quarantine is not very fun, but @grim22 thinks it would be a fun distraction to make our own mock weekend thread. We'll be in charge of the numbers, so you guys can't make that stuff up. But you guys can react to what happens, make your own stories, etc. It's just a nice little thing to do while we're all stuck home alone. With that out of the way, let's begin!

Happy Easter everybody! I'm sure you guys have heard about this wild viral trend that's sweeping the nation, but that's not going to stop us from talking about the box office. For whatever reason, people have been really excited about the box office for the past couple weeks. A Quiet Place 2 opened to about 60M, while Mulan opened to 75M, and New Mutants inexplicably got to 175M. So the pressure is really on for these movies. Everybody's excited to see what good ol' Mr. Bond will be up to, and how Princess Poppy and Branch save the music world, and we're excited we get another fun-filled weekend at the box office. Along with Peter Rabbit expected to open to boffo business, this is going to be one Easter we'll never forget. Thank you President Trump for still keeping movie theaters alive!

But again, you guys still need to follow the rules

1. NO SPOILERS. This applies to all movies currently in theaters. No Time to Die and Trolls World Tour are the most anticipated movies of the year, and it's not cool to reveal that Rami Malek dabs on the haters or that Tiny Diamond outs himself as a white supremacist. Don't be a dick.

2. NO AGENDAS. We get it. The Earth is flat, Papa Feige is destroying cinema, and bowties are cool. There's a time and place for this stuff, but it's not here. Anybody who does this kind of stuff will be banned. Don't be a dick.

3. NO POLITICS. Peter Rabbit 2 has been a massive political talking point, ever since James Corden announced he was pro-Brexit. And honestly, politics just aren't cool to talk about. We have other threads for you to go to for that stuff. Don't be a dick.

4. IS OFF-TOPIC DISCUSSION ALLOWED? Well...yes and no. Stick to the box office as best as you can, but in certain dead periods, you can talk about whatever, so long as it's not too controversial. Don't. Be. A. Dick.

5. DON'T BE A DICK. Yeah, you know what I'm gonna say

And now...

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO

This is an experiment to try and lighten the mood of the forums. Bond seemed like the perfect weekend to try this.

Basically, we are discussing from an alternate universe where the virus didn't shut everything down. If this doesn't work this week, we won't do this again. Else we can continue for big weekends.

Quote

EXCLUSIVE: It appears citizends are heeding President Trum's "America Is Open for Businesss" decree this Easter Weekend. Deadline is report 10.3M previews for the latest Bond film, aptly named "No Time to Die".

By comparison, Spectre generated 5.25M in 2015, on its way to over 70M. Tracking estimated the film would open to about 100M, and it is on good track to go past that number.

Trolls World Tour did not host previews, but fellow family film competitor, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, hopped away from audiences, generating a poor 725K gross. Previews started at 4. The film has suffered with the worst reviews of the year, with 8% on Rotten Tomatoes for the James Corden release.

good for no time to die but still gonna be tough for it to beat New Mutants. I can't believe it's daily numbers have increased every single day this past week. i knew we were in for a word of mouth sensation when the folks at cinemascore said "literally nobody we polled gave it less than an A+" but this is ridiculous.

Why don't more studios release movies in March and early April? History has shown that it's a good spot. Now it seems like September is the only shit month left.

Somehow this is Zack Snyder's fault

No Time doesn't have a chance to beat the Mutants because when they asked the audience how they felt about Craig still being Bond they replied

i do have to wonder if that viral today show clip from a couple days ago of Daniel Craig pissing on a picture of ian fleming while yelling "I'M FREE! I'M FREEEEE" will negatively effect the movie.

September is a good month to release horror films though. Just look at how much the IT films grossed. Even creepy themed family films like Hotel Transylvania (1 & 2) did really well.

Then how come The Goldfinch flopped so hard?

LOL Peter Rabbit probably gonna do less than 15M this weekend. Not surprised, given all the comparisons to Cats the reviews have pointed out. Even so, I can't see Cinemascore being anything less than a B-. Probably will top out at around 45M total.

Great for Bond, I'm glad we finally got a sequel that lived up to Casino Royale and Skyfall. Wouldn't be surprised if this goes over 100M for the weekend tbh
