That was probably my first sold out session since some time in 2019.

And it was a Saturday afternoon session of Godzilla vs Kong.

Don't think this has been posted yet?

Regals that are reopening on the 2nd:

Quote

Have to admit I'm a tiny bit surprised that the local Delta Shores isn't on the list, given that it was one of the handful that was open when Regal shut down last year.  Whatevas, it'll be back soon enuf.

Anyway, don't see any showtimes up yet.  Poking about, I see that Regal, as should be expected, will have Private Watch Parties, but I haven't found any pricing info yet.

Reading their fine print, they don't want to open anywhere that isn't 50%+ for movie theaters (so my Regals are also not there yet)...in fact, from their fine print, they seem to say they will open at 100% capacity unless a county or state tells them not to...that's gonna be an interesting strategy in areas where there are other theaters doing more spacing...

Only these 20+ locations out of 500+ Regal cinemas across USA? They seem only focus on IMAX or PLF format this round

Been like 6 days since my last update on California HP1 vaccination progress. Looks like this week will be ~flat with 600k. Still on track to hit 4M next Sat imo. I would expect a new framework with green tier and possible 6M/8M goals in the week after that.

Meaning it is more likely to help GvK 2nd week hold then boosting opening weekend. I doubt they can immediately revise their reopening framework in time in the opening weekend itself.

Way too limited than the headline. But I guess the list for 2nd April is not finalized because the notice said they will update the list daily, suggest that could be new inclusion.

From what I recall of the original Deadline story, there was only supposed to be a limited amount of Regals opening on the 2nd.  Frankly, I'm surprised it's that many, as I was expecting no more than a dozen or so.

As expected, Los Angeles and Orange counties are moving orange tier tomorrow. What’s less clear is just how fast which theaters will get it up and running at 50%. Expect deadline to comment on the matter in the next couple hours.

Unrelated to a reopening but an opening in general, I’m currently waiting for this sucker to finally open. They started construction at in Q3 2019 with original plans to open by Q4 2020 but of course that’s been pushed back. I expect it to open by July. Will be 24 screens, over 4300 seats and only 3 miles from me (will be my knew go to/closest theater).

Sample size of one, but from what I recall, the Cinema West that was allowed to upgrade seating locally did it via Fandango within 24 to 36 hours or so and on its home site within about 48 to 60 hours or so.

I kinda think Fandango might have done it on its own, or Cinema West just sent the code to upgrade faster to Fandango than it did on its corp site.

In other words, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe Wed, but much more likely to be Thr/Fri, IMO.  If we want to read a damn thing into a sample size of one (SPOILER: We should not ;)).

https://www.thewrap.com/los-angeles-movie-theaters-can-raise-capacity-limit-to-50-on-wednesday/

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health will permit businesses to adjust their COVID-19 protocols to fit the less-restrictive “orange tier” starting on Monday, April 5, meaning that local theaters will have to adhere to 25% capacity limits for the opening weekend of “Godzilla vs. Kong.” This is being done to ensure that infection rates in the county do not rise back out of the range needed to qualify for the orange tier as it makes the transition.

The chains seem reluctant to open where they can't get at least 50% capacity.

The market is looking to be extremely slow between now and Memorial Day weekend (Cruella/A Quiet Place) outside of potentially Mortal Kombat and Spiral so wonder if anything will move up to take advantage. Probably not since the June/July titles seem locked in at this point.

Time for Demon Slayer to run wild ;)
