They have control over that. Just move! Dune oughta be in December, so move Matrix to April 2022.

It seem GvK finally got some strong mid-week hold, barely 4% drop unless they have typo in the figure again

The streaming apps might actually be making up for the loss of theater revenue. Especially when you eliminate the theater's 50% split from the equation.

Sometimes I would do a double-shot at the theater, especially if the matinee is the second viewing of a film I saw the previous week. So my plan was to do an early second viewing of Godzilla vs Kong, then my first viewing of Mortal Kombat. I have to get there early when I do this.

The nearby AMC is only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday now...well I'm off Mondays and Tuesdays. The two other theaters are open every day-but starting at 4:30PM...thats not gonna work for a double-shot, it'll be too late in the evening.

So that lead me right into the waiting arms of the streaming apps 🙂. During the pandemic I missed Justice League Director's Cut, Wonder Women 1984, and some other second tier films, in addition to Mortal Kombat. So I signed up with HBO Max. The 14.99 is peanuts compared to what I'd spend at the theater 🙂. My own home theater,  grub, couch, and I got glasses and the function to put a 3D effect on the picture 🙂

The theater hours are just too inconvenient right now. Its still best to see certain movies on that towering theater screen. But I'll be happy with my 55" until theaters get back to normal. I'm pretty sure streaming services are experiencing a huge increase in revenue because of this.

This is the capacity permitted in different states of America. In order to hope for higher box office number especially for AQP2 by Memorial weekend, these 3 key states (where moviegoing culture is stronger), i.e. Penn, NY and New jersey need to increase their cap to at least 50% just like california.  These 3 states have a total population of over 40m (about the same size of CA) and their combined covid cases (7 days average) is more than 10k at the moment . If CA is any guide, the state start to allow 50% seating when the number of 7-days case hit 2500. Although NJ, Penn and NY are experience drastic case reduction in recent week,  it is unlikely however, we can see their combined case halved by Memorial weekend. Fortunately all three states have way above national average of vaccination, so even if they missed late-May, the things should start turning better by mid-June.  Still, it is sad that AQP2 have to endure this 25-33% seating cap.

May be an image of map and text that says 'Washington Montana Oregon Idaho North Dakota Minnesota South Dakota Wyoming Maine Utah Wisconsin Michigan Michigan Nebraska Iowa Vermont New York Connecticut Pennsylvania Maryland Colorado Colorado Illinois Kansas Ohio Missouri 20-49% Capacity Limit 50-69% Capacity Limit Arizona 70-90% Capacity Limit Restrictions Liffediska -Social Distancing New Mexico Kentucky Virginia Oklahoma Tennessee Arkansas North Carolina Texas Alabama Georgia ouisiana Hawaii Florida'

Those 3 will all go 50% by MDW.

In California, SF and LA look likely to qualify next week for yellow tier, which allows 75% capacity (with everyone having a vaccine or negative covid test).

Is that a grid or metrics that outline the reopening criteria? I couldn't find one. It seem very aggressive to ease the restriction when the number of cases are double or triple of that CA

No unfortunately most states don’t have clear numerical frameworks like California. It’s just as assessment of virus+vaccine+political+social trends.

And we have a new jokeri in play with India. You know, with those numbers, the virus is going to mutate like hell, and the mutations will spread.

US looks good at the moment, but that could easily change.

That would require theaters to screen for negative tests/vaccine cards and I don't know if they want to deal with that hassle, especially when it comes to online sales.

IANAL, but they might be able to get away with having people click a “I’m vaccinated or have tested negative” box.

For point of comparison, folks like the SF Giants are requiring proof of vaccination/negative test to get in the park at all even before the yellow tier clearance was set up.  They also are setting aside vaccine-only sections of the ballpark where you can have larger "pods" of people and I highly doubt they are relying on an honor system.

What I could see is clicking a "I'm vaccinated/negative" button but requiring proof before they're let in the premises.  Somewhat analogous to age restrictions.  Then, of course, we get into the headache of enforcement.  Screening borderline kids and seniors is one thing. Screening everyone, especially with some folks being cranky at being asked is perhaps another matter.

Might boil down to how much the hassle of enforcement is worth the extra 25% cap, especially in smaller auditoriums.

Those 25% extra can be set aside too in cinema mainly for walk-ups vaccinated crowd?

I don't really understand their optimism, france still have 27k daily cases in average and 300+ death everyday....And their vaccination is nowhere near satisfactory.

Just one week before AQP2. To me, 100% is too aggressive especially the vaccination is clearly slowing down, I still prefer something like 50%-75%. Not sure why all of sudden they go this far and the last thing we want is 5th surge.
