Back in 6 figures for a total DOM box office - and it seems like we only added 1 new theater, although we didn't add any "new" releases, so not a surprise:).  So, how long for total DOM BO to get back to 7 figures?  Next weekend?  June?  Stay tuned...PS - funny The Wretched made more money this weekend than it has any other weekend so far...

Final weekend numbers, but you need to remove the 2 "virtual releases" to get in person DOM BO...so a little over $130K...

Only movie reporting so far, but The Wretched is showing it doesn't matter what you show, if you reopen, someone is coming...it went up more than 102% so far this weekend, as it drops into 59 theaters...so we now know we at least have that many theaters open DOM...baby steps, but baby steps they are...and we are likely above $200K for the 3 day once other movies report, so double the theaters, double the box office, even with no new movies (although I'm still waiting to see if Military Wives actually did a day-and-date release with the drive-ins)...

EDIT: Put in Monday's chart of the weekend...we did have a "new" movie release, so that was worth adding...and we did easily go over $200K...

That's actually closer to 3x the theaters for 2x the box office. Put another way, the PTA at drive-ins is about double the PTA at traditional cinemas. This is actually not good news, although it is very little data to work from.

By now, people have seen it at the early open theaters, so to go way up is a good thing...I mean, how many times would you pay for The Wretched?:)...

That's a valid point. There's a lot we don't know, such as the market overlap between the 21 theaters from two weekends ago and the 59 it played at this past weekend. Did we add 38 new markets? I don't think we have a way of knowing.

Another thing to consider is that we're working with something like 1% of the total cinema locations, with no control for capacity or screen counts. This may actually represent much less than 1% of the market.

However, the jump was less than I'd expected given the increase in locations and a holiday weekend. What I'm reading into this, at my on peril perhaps, is that people will need a reason to go to the movies. They don't seem to be pounding on the doors demanding to be let in to see just anything.

Posting final chart for the weekend - almost got a quarter million...that's nice growth with no real new movies, but some more theaters...if another horror movie would open, we could start getting somewhere...PS - The Wretched did way better by % than estimates - up to 135% increase over last weekend...

Updated numbers for this weekend - The Wretched continues its great hold (it's now certain to hit $1M by the end of next weekend, probably shocking its makers), and we now have at least 75 DOM theaters open...will we get to 100 theaters open this weekend (which will be hard to tell unless The Wretched continues to be the only show in town:)...

https://www.the-numbers.com/news/246430830-Weekend-Wrap-Up-Wretched-Remains-Unbeatable

"Another weekend has passed, and The Wretched remains lodged in top spot on the box office chart. This week the film pulled in $176,000 in 75 theaters for a running tally of $836,000 after a month of release. It is on pace to crack $1 million by this time next week. It is rare for a limited-release horror film to reach this milestone under the best of circumstances, so it is really worth celebrating now. It also wasn’t the only glimmer of light on the box office front.
We Summon the Darkness landed in second place with $26,000 in 6 theaters over the weekend for a total of $61,000 after two. It declined 14% during its sophomore stint, but it also lost 40% of its theaters, so its theater average actually rose. This is a positive sign going forward and it could mean we will see a few more horror films released in drive-ins before the summer is done.

Overall reported box office for the weekend was just $204,456, down a little from Memorial Day weekend. The general trend is upwards though—two weeks ago, reported box office was just $136,242, and four weeks ago it was only $92,387. While the total is heavily dependent on who is reporting, it should continue to climb as more theaters open around the country..."

Didn't we hear that there were something like 200 or 300 theaters open a week ago? It's just that most of them are playing movies that aren't getting reported, either because the big studios aren't bothering with the tiny numbers right now, or because they're super old movies from the 80s.

For example, the drive-in here in Toledo finally opened 2 weeks ago. One screen is showing Trolls World Tour with Dolittle, and the other screen is showing Knives Out with Bad Boys For Life.

Here's an example of a theater that's currently open down in Texas, that's showing a mix of 2020 and classic movies. https://weatherford.filmalley.net/

And they're actually adding The Wretched this weekend. Same for its sister theater in Terrell. So that'll be a few more theaters added to The Wretched's theater count, even though those 2 theaters actually opened a week ago.

All very confusing right now. We'll never have a complete picture, though there might be a few movies that have their totals adjusted a few months from now.

Yeah, it's gonna be hard to count...and I don't think anyone even really knows, but they are guessing b/c since many of the theaters aren't reporting numbers and are the tiny individually owned ones (or in some cases, actually newly repurposed drive ins at random places)...so, I figure having official numbers each weekend lets us see how limited new movies do as they keep slowly rolling out...

It will be funny to see how long it takes to readjust all the old 2019-2020 movies for the small takes they are getting daily right now...and if those takes start to get bigger, will anyone pull them together...
