Did not felt has particularly bad for Howard relative to Howard relative output or Netflix (maybe the thing, expectation was so low from that combo + the critical reception) Close is an icon and all but she was ridiculous in Hillbilly Elegy (as was the whole movie). Her Cruella de Vil was more nuanced lol. At this point just give her the Oscar to get it over with at last because she deserves to have at least one for her legacy, even if it would go down as one of the worst acting wins ever (which is saying a lot considering it feels like the past decade ended up having a lot of unpopular/undeserving acting winners). titanic2187
As much as Close was snubbed in 2019 oscar , olivia performance did deserve the win. If they want to give a consolation prize to Close, she has to be at least better or on par with her competitors, regardless if her performance in Hillbilly elegy is her career worst. WrathOfHan
If Lindo misses BAFTA, I'd say he's done and the SAG 5 is the Oscar 5. If he makes it there, he'll make it at the Oscars over Oldman. Mank is WEAK.

filmlover
I don't know whether to laugh or sigh at the fact they gave the individual awards to non-Caucasians only for arguably the whitest movie up for the award to take Ensemble. The Actor categories are locked in now although they've felt that way for a while. SAG clearly loves Davis based on history and it would be odd for Ma Rainey to win double acting awards without a Best Picture nom, but she would be making history as the first black actress to win two Oscars if she did (and she would certainly be deserving of the title given what an undeniable talent she is).
lorddemaxus
Trial is a funny win. Trial winning Best Picture would also be funny too.

Not really, SAG loves movies that are super duper ensemble-y. American Hustle and Hidden Figures are recent winners that went home empty-handed on Oscar night. The individual winners from last night are likely going to match up at the Oscars at this point. The four acting categories all going to POC feels fitting in a year where stories of racist violence have been everywhere in the news. The Golden Globes, Critics Choice, SAG have different winners, and none of those winners are nominated at BAFTA. Suppose Kirby wins there, then all the nominees come into Oscar night with a televised precursor except McDormand, who's in the Best Picture frontrunner, which never hurts a person's odds. A third Best Actress win for her doesn't seem like the most likely thing, but it's an extremely unusual year, so... Best Supporting Actress isn't as scattered, but it's not like the Actor categories where sweeps are happening so far.
titanic2187
A great choice from SAG for supporting actress. Her biggest competition would be Olivia or Close but both of them aren't even nominated at BAFTA, so even if Youn won there, the advantage won't be clear. When was the last time an Oscar actor/actress winner isn't even nominated at GG? Alicia Vikander doesn't count since she did score a nomination as lead actress in GG for the danish girl. It is huge blow to Youn's Oscar chance considering GG snub Youn.

On the related note, with both Viola Davis and Carey snubbed at BAFTA, there is no way to measure how much momentum they retain along the season. Frances may that that BAFTA prize and give her some last boost to Oscar win. The only odd against Frances at the Oscar is her recent win, and most notable, her deliberately absence from the campaign spotlight. I can feel Frances is trying every possible way to escape this season.

She's just such an amazing talent that her work speaks for itself, and really only shows up at these awards shows to support her colleagues and their work.
