CAYOM Year 8 Discussion Thread

Thanks for clearing that up. Although, I do want to give other creators a chance to breathe, since there's a limited number of slots left.

There's not really a limited number of slots. Nothing wrong with multiple films releasing on the same day. Obviously you're not pressured to fill the schedule by yourself either. It's really just however much you want to put into it in any given year

@El Squibbonator Yourmother's list is simply an indicator of dates that need another release to be placed on that date; when it says "1 film needed", it's saying 1 film other than Frankenstein Jr., and the other films (Speed and Folklore) are films previously planned for that date which may or may not fulfill that specific slot. In short, Frankenstein Jr. is still set for August 9th, but if you do make more films for this year, you can use that list to help you choose a date for films you might write!

I didn’t see Frankenstein Jr on the calendar which I based my list off of, and thought it was scheduled on 8/23 for some reason but I edited my list and fixed it. That was my mistake.

I think the best choice of submission date should be Monday, April 5th as I don’t think most of us would get our material done on time within 2-3 weeks.

My compromise date would be March 29th.

You know what, maybe April 5th; I wouldn't prefer April 5th, but if a lot of people want that date, then it's fine.

Just now, El Squibbonator said:

Are we allowed to submit a movie that is described as an adaptation in-universe, but whose "source material" is completely fictional? Like, say I wanted to make a movie that's based on a book, but the book only exists in the CAYOM-verse. Is that allowed?

Yes it'd be allowed hypothetically

But I recommend just making it an "original" story since it's a bit simpler that way.

Well, part of the reason I'm asking is because I was wondering whether in-universe audience awareness of the property (fictional or otherwise) would have an impact of the movie's success.

It wouldn't since there's no way to gauge its in-universe popularity apart from the film itself. Better to just make it an original film.

It probably wouldn't impact too much since in the CAYOM-verse, moviegoers absolutely love original films and will flock to them if they're good! Adaptations with inherently limited interest make like over a billion worldwide sometimes. Yeah, a good film will be successful whether it's a property audiences are aware of or if it's an original--so you can definitely have it be an original, and it'd probably make the same (or a very similar) amount it would if it were adapted!

@Blankments suggested a deadline date of May 2nd. I kind of like the idea as it’s neat summer break for most of us and which should make entry into Y9 more accessible and fast if we have Y8 scheduled during the summer. I’d also have more time to do actuals this year. However, we only need 29 films for release but most of the films leftover are films people haven’t finished writing and very excited to write.

I give a May 2nd final deadline my full support!

Unless there's any objections, it looks like Sunday, May 2nd will be the new Year 8 deadline. If that's cool with you, just like this post (don't worry, not a shameless ploy to get likes, it's only so I don't get a bunch of response posts like "yes" or "that's alright")
