I kinda disagree. I think people will view this as a spinoff. From the name alone, it sounds like one.

a product marketed by its association with a popular television program, movie, personality, etc.

 

Literally that is what Lightyear is. Why are we changing the definitions to justify our pie in the sky expectations?

Lightyear isn't outgrossing Toy Story 3 OR 4 domestically. I'm a huge Pixar fan and even I think $400 million for this is nuts.

Yes, it is literally a spin-off. That does not mean that spin-off is necessarily the best frame of reference as far box office comps go. It’s a different sort of relationship to the original property than you typically see.

Low: $220-250M DOM. $500-600M WW

 

Mid: $250-300M DOM. $600-700M WW

 

High: $300-350M. DOM. $700-800M WW
