The Wild Eric

Nope | Jordan Peele | Keke Palmer, Daniel Kaluuya, Steven Yeun star | July 22, 2022

I kept seeing the Black man on a horse trailer constantly with nearly every movie. With this movie finally coming out, I'm happy I won't have to see that thing anymore.

I hope it does well because this summer badly needs another hit.

Us scored an 80 on MC , but was very divisive with general audiences

I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happens with Nope.

But the reviews are great, it should help at least the OW.

With a budget of 68M, anything over 100M DOM is good.

We can expect three 100m grosser from late summer original hit. Nope hype and buzz make a strong come back, WB is pushing hard on Superpets and Bullet Train got some strong reaction from test screening. It is safe to say late summer box office won't be boring with these original hit.

Agreed, i'm very confident in both Nope and Bullet Train grossing over 100M, and hoping it can get close to 150M.

Beyond Maverick demolishing success, the runs that mades me happier so far is Elvis and The Black Phone, really hoping Nope/ BT will join them, we need original or at least non-franchises successes way more than we need the 3848th MCU movie doing 400M.

Love the topsy turvy feeling on this one. Probably another direction change before CinemaScore hits. 90% RT with 60 reviews is a huge positive sign. The only thing holding this back from breaking out is if the general audience don't click with it. Entirely possible after US, plus a lot of critics note the messy 3rd act. But the only thing that matters for box office is if the masses love it. If they do, 50 million ow is easy.

I've seen ads for this literally nonstop on TV the past two weeks. Whether they've been effective is debatable I suppose, but Universal's certainly getting awareness out there.

I don't live in the States so that's good to know.

For whatever reason, my local IMAX theater isn't playing this movie this weekend. I'm speculating it might be because it's a horror movie and the theater is connected to a kid's museum, but it's still really odd to me.

I don't think this is hitting $50 million+, it's more like $34-38 million. There's so little buzz, and everyone who has seen the film (audience and critics) are saying it's his worst work, pretentious, interesting for the first 45 mins or so and then it falls apart. Pretty much what I thought it will be.

I mean, if this is worse than "Us", my lord... But it will probably end up with making roughly $100 million when it's all said and done. No major releases in August will probably help it with legs, so I wouldn't rule out $110-120 million total.

FUCK YES at the amazing reviews! So hyped for this

Which amazing reviews? The first bunch are, but the ones that matter are about to come out, and from what I read they are saying it's pretty mediocre. And since Peele is so overrated, this will get a pc boost like it's a "masterpiece" from many, which is what they tried to turn "Us" into, another mediocre pretentious film that had very little to offer, besides the cinematography. But god forbid anyone criticizes Peele's work, because you'll be labeled as a racist immediately.

Christ almighty dude nobody is genuinely calling detractors of the film racist, and at the end of the day there will be plenty of critics for whom it's not their taste.

And how is calling people who like his films "pc" any better than calling people who dislike them racist? Let people have their opinions. Not every Black director gets positive reviews, not every movie that deals with social issues is acclaimed. If Peele's films stand out among such films, it's because the critics genuinely like them.

There is definitely an issue with north american critics and their bias when it comes to african american directors...they seem to be more mellow and less inclined to sharpen their teeths the way they would do for a white director (I'm thinking about Joe Wright and the venomous reviews he often receives despite the quality of his movies being relatively high on average and pretty beloved by the general audiences).

I think it would be wise to wait for the foreign press to review the movie before we call it a masterpiece or a good film even... we saw what happened with US and there is no way that film is worthy of the good reviews it got.
